Opinions are like ass.holes.  Everyone has one.

Take a step back guys.  Lets not be judgemental.  You sound like a bunch of Badger fans berating someone who isn't even on the team.

If we offer the guy, then he probably has potential.

THERE IS NO DAMAGE DONE BY DOING AN OFFICIAL VISIT.

Remember when we signed guys like DJO, and Jimmy Butler and everyone said, "Wait, WHO?"

Give Buzz, and the kid, a chance to prove himself.  Says he is a hard worker.  Can never have enough of those.

I looked him up on ESPN ...

Hahn gets a 77 rating

Last year ....

Roseboro = 86
Mbao = 88
Was Frozena rated higher than this guy?

Could their be an alternative motive for giving this kid a look?  Is their a stud on his HS or AAU team?  Maybe Buzz wants to use his trip to establish a relationship with that coach?  Just a thought because signing him doesn't make any sense.

Also, looking at him makes it sound like someone is leaving (as opposed to being pushed out).  So who is it?

Butrym's seat on the bench has been cold for too long!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Citing someone's ESPN rating is like citing something you read on Wikipedia.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Are you suggesting he would be a good player for us to sign?

The whole point of boards is for us fans to act like we know what we are talking about etc.  R u telling me you're impressed with those videos?  C'mon now...

I said nothing of the sort.  Thus far, I've not contributed to this topic nor do I intend to do so.  Call it a hijack if you will.

I basically implied that relying upon an ESPN rating is tantamount to relying upon the opinion of an anonymous person with unknown credentials.

Texas State????????  That should say enough.  Please no more projects at center.
You bet....Texas State--home of the Fightin Armadillos, starring  Scott Bacula, as the middle aged QB (Sinbad, Kathy Ireland as Kicker), in "Necessary Roughness"....best quote:

(Rob Schneider):...."I hope you stay tuned as the Texas State marching band does its salute to gun racks and open beverage containers; which is only legal in Texas."

real athletes in movie:
Dick Butkus ...  Convict Football Player
Earl Campbell ...  Convict Football Player
Roger Craig ...  Convict Football Player
Ben Davidson ...  Convict Football Player
Tony Dorsett ...  Convict Football Player
Evander Holyfield ...  Convict Football Player
Ed 'Too Tall' Jones ...  Convict Football Player
Jim Kelly ...  Prison Football Player

Jerry Rice ...  Convict Football Player
Herschel Walker ...  Convict Football Player
Randy White ...  Convict Football Player
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Why is that? Do you really believe that a simple offer of a scholarship is enough to warrant fans shutting their mouths?

We gave a scholarship to a hockey player. We gave a scholarship to a soccer player. We gave a scholarship to a kid who had one good performance in a pick-up game against our former stud recruit.

There have been scholarships given on potential (which you seem to espouse) that have blown up on us. Knowing that, I don't think any fan has to simply shut up at learning a scholarship offer has been extended simply because a few feel we shouldn't be judgmental.

When does the spring signing period end? I will be surprised if we sign anyone, but who knows.

You guys are unreal.....when did everyone become a scout?....if Buzz has it on good authority from his Texas connections that this kid has real potential....I mean Texas wouldn't be calling if he was a dud....

The purpose of a discussion board is to discuss....not cheerlead.

And we heard WVU was calling on Roseboro too.  That didn't make him good.

forget this kid but i would take his grandpa in a heartbeat to back up Junior.  That guy runs the pick and roll like CP3!!!!!!!!!

actually this video shows some potential. The big question is how he moves, rebounds and plays D.  And I'm talking about the 7 footer, just to clarify.

MUBurrow

theres also something to be said for the idea that when you post youtube videos of yourself practicing in your backyard, you are intending to foster discussion.  you can't videotape yourself doing 5 ft hookshots and not expect people to want to talk about the look/value of said hookshot.

May 19th can't come soon enough so all this speculation ends.

You gotta be f'ing kidding me. 3 minutes of this cat practicing a move where he "skyed" exactly 6" off the court. I fell asleep at the 1:30 mark. Tell me MU sent him a free frequent flyer ticket and didn't really spend the airfare.

You'd really trust the opinion of Buzz Williams on a recruiting issue over that of the posters on this board.  CRAZY!

This guys isn't coming. Neither is (insert other name here), because nobody new is coming.

Why would MU waste the time and money to bring them here then?

bamamarquettefan

Yeah, obviously really impossible for any of us to get much from watching a kid shoot on an empty court, and a 77 rating from ESPN is scary.  He looked pretty comfortable with his free throws on that clip of him hitting 20 of 25 and on his 3-pointers hitting 14 of 25, though clearly he towed the drawn in line on a few at the end.  There weren't any breaks in the footage, but obviously we don't know if his Dad shot a hour of video and just took good stretches or what.

I remain completely happy with next year's roster, but a big Noreen fan if he were to want to come.  However, the one nagging thing I do keep remembering was that report a ways into the season that Mbao had made his first shot ever IN PRACTICE.  Please correct me if that was wrong or later corrected, but as much as I love Mbao I do wonder if his offense is that much of a project that he just really will never score a basket for us and if that has Buzz looking at 7-footers who can score.  Buzz has missed (Roseboro), but he sure seems to be wired throughout Big12 country, so I'm going to join in trusting his judgment and not dismiss this kid out of hand.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

jficke13

I'm not saying that Buzz isn't recruiting this guy or other guys. I just don't think that anyone is going to come. Just to give my reasoning:

1. No available scholarships
1a. Someone would have to leave
2. Whoever comes would have to be better than whoever leaves, or else we wouldn't bring them on.
3. Unless Mbao leaves it would be a big guy replacing a guard.
4. If Buzz has shown us anything in 2 years it's that he doesn't feel constrained by traditional lineup configuration. He won't bring in a big guy to replace a guard unless that big guy is hands down better than that guard.
5. I don't think any of these people fit that description and, unless Mbao really is irreparably hurt, that means Buzz won't replace a good guard with a mediocre big.

4everwarriors

So, you don't see it as rather obvious that at least one scholarship is opening up?
"Give 'Em Hell, Al"

jficke13

Not until a scholarship actually opens up. Until then it's nothing more than speculation. All we have to go on is the continued recruiting efforts and a whole lot of message board hating on one of our current players. That's not sufficient evidence to assume a roster change.

4everwarriors

Counselor,
Just answer one additional question. Are you going to apply similar logic in your law career?
