I am a ND football fan
« on: April 27, 2010, 11:15:13 AM »
I don't want to pee on the parade because I want to believe Otule is our starting center.  Who is he playing against?

I am a Notre Dame football fan and last weekend was the Blue and Gold game.  There were highlights of 44 yard TD runs.  So is the running game that good or the defense that bad?

So Otule is playing to a equal level of some HS seniors?  In Spring, who is guarding him?  Butler?

Your argument suffered from epic failure as soon as you wrote, "I am Notre Dame football fan"

That sucks.

For the last 10 years or so, unless you were a FL, USC, OSU, or Bama fan, it's all the same IMO.

I don't think he was commenting about their on-field performance.

C'mon guys, lay off JD08.  I'm sure he started watching them on NBC was a wee lad, and quite possibly some uncle's cousin daughter went there, and every X-Mas they sit around watching Rudy.

AHHHH.... in that case, I don't know if I want to be a fan of any other team.  As much crap as I talk to ND fans during the basketball season, ND football is one of the best.  MOST (not all) other elite football programs are filled with thugs and they cheat.  If MU ever had a football program, I would want them to run it like ND does.

But lets get back on topic.  I am happy that Otule is better than a highly rated HS big.  That is why I don't care if Buzz signs another recruit or not.

LOL... close.  Older brother went there.  I went to games with my bro when I was in HS, fell in love, didn't get in and keeping up with ND football was easy at MU.

I'd love to see a thread about "people you know with some distant connection to ND who act like they went to ND." Of course, the same is true for UW-Platteville grads of UW-Madison.

I always think of a family from my Catholic high school where the grandfather went to ND and it was the life-long dream of his daughter, a teacher/mother at our school, to get any of her kids in there. They all ended up at Carroll College type schools.

What are you waiting for.... SuperBar is open for business.  I just like me some college football.  ND introduced me to college football and I hate the Big Ten.  We should start a thread about Marquette football... oh wait.

Perhaps you are forgetting the 1934 Cotton Bowl, when our great basketball players also almost took MU to the Rose Bowl.  Or maybe you are forgetting that unlike Notre Dame, Marquette hasn't had a losing record in football since the 1960s!  Or that the football team never changed their names to the Golden Eagles.

Go Marquette football!
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Based on the Weiss era I'd go with the latter

I am leaning that way as well... BUT, it definitely wasn't for the lack of talent.  They have 4/5 star talent all over the field.  The Kelly era will probably have a better go at it.  Manti Teo (Soph MLB) is an absolute stud and will be playing on Sunday.

Brian Kelly has never been known for defense (see 2010 Sugar Bowl).

Bad example... Kelly wasn't coaching.  (NOT SAYING AT ALL THAT THEY WOULD HAVE WON)  BUT, I see your point.  My only hope is that the talent wasn't there.  One of the few things Weis did well was recruit, so don't be surprised if ND is better than many expect.  Talent was there, coaching really wasn't.

That's odd.......another ND football fan on his moral high horse.

Of course no ND football player (or any other student) for that matter would ever get into trouble while at school. The water on campus is actually holy water so it is impossible to sin. Learned that on my ND tour.

Ever heard of Julius Jones?  Or Kyle Maclarney?

I understand that student athletes have a longer leash (or no leash at all) than regular students.  Truth is, they still have academic standards for the athletes and they still discipline athletes.  Many schools don't, and most elite programs don't.

Julius Jones flunked out of school but was allowed back in a year later simply because he's a great football player. If ND had as much academic integrity as you seem to imply, he never would have been allowed to re-enroll.

If they didn't have standards, he would have never been kicked out.  He enrolled in another school, got his grades up, and came back.  When has a football player been kicked out for grades from USC, OSU, FL, or any other elite program?

If the kid jacked up his grades, and goes to AZ to pump up his grades (along with other things), and re-enrolls, what's wrong with that?
