Unfortunately, no Buzz....those haters!!  Brad Stevens not on the list.  Many guys that are, shouldn't be.

Have at it boys.

Let me be the 1st to say it....

THIS, is amazing on so many levels. Not only the list itself.

THIS, could be perfect for this board.   :D

4everwarriors

Hey, any one of us could draw up a list and it would have about as much credibility. At least Bruce checks in along with a legendary coach. After, #27 I just proceeded to #29.

Buzz and Brad stevens must have been "bubble" coaches, and among last out of the selections. When Hoopscoop expands, next yaer to a 96 coach list , both will be on it lol
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

ChicosBailBonds

Isn't Hoop Scoop the same outfit that rated our recruiting class as #1?

There had to be 15 names on that list that were jaw dropping, but people actually give these guys money for their opinions.

danidoodles

I find it comical that a coach who got fired (Al Skinner, Boston College's fomer coach) made the list over Buzz or Brad Stevens.  The guy doesn't even have a job anymore, however he is deemed better! LMAO

warriors1991

mustve been a soft bubble this year....... :D

Well, Marquette can take credit for the #28 coach since he certainly has not made his name in anything he has done in his current job.  So the rankings did not completely diss MU.

The national rankings might look at Buzz and say that he just won games with Crean's players and see him as someone with much left to prove.  Not saying that attitude is reality, but for a casual Pac-10 or Big 12 fan, that is probably what they think of Buzz.  Few care to understand how good his recruiting and coaching is so far.

Buzz has two fifth place finishes and has never made it past the first weekend.  Not saying that there are other questionable ones on there, and I think Buzz should be.  I just think he might not be a consensus top 50 yet.

Tugg Speedman

Crean #28
Few #29

If Gonzaga and IU switched coaches, how many in Bloomington would feel they downgraded?

Dawson Rental

Oliver Purnell at # 34.

There's no way he makes this list except for the boost he obviously got from being chosen by DePaul  ::)
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Dawson Rental

23. Mike Brey, Notre Dame

One spot after Thadd Matta of Ohio State

I'm not sure if this is due to him getting lucky with Harangody, or because he takes the Hoopscoop guys out to dinner anytime that they're in South Bend.

This list is ridiculous.  Calipari and Thuggins are cheating convict recruiters. Crean : #28, ridiculous!
Self #2--why? Alford should definitely be higher. Etc.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Wait...you don't like where Calipari and Huggins are ranked because they're shady yet you think Alford should be higher?!

mileskishnish72

Any such list that puts Calipari 1st is mortally flawed.

That's not true - he's first on a lot of my lists.  Here are two examples:

- Most hated NCAA coach; and most importantly
- Most vacated final fours

Yeah I do. If you think Calipari is #1 with his huge BS baggage, and Thuggins should be that high with his graduation rate, arrest record, etc., then buy the Brooklyn Bridge. And please, do not bother to tell me that Ky. sure thought highly of Calipari.

By the way, ask John Chaney his thoughts on Calipari

You missed my point. If you don't like those guys, it surprises me that you want Alford higher considering he doesn't exactly have a squeaky clean resume himself.

BTW, that list was part of several list that was published in the recent issue of Basketball Times including upcoming coaches, assistants, etc.  Buzz was either 1st or 2nd on the "upcoming" list.  He is on his way... :)

I haven't looked a the list yet.  I'll guess, based on the poster, that II,II is on it.  Now I'll go look.

What on Alford's resume bothers you? He made one mistake, backing Pierre Pierce when he was charged. I am not aware of any other issues. Compare Alford's players to the arrest records that Kirk Ferentz players accumulated--and ferentz is generally regarded as a saint in Iowa. Hell, he had 15 players over three years charged with stuff.

A Stupid list.  Should be called "list of coaches based on no objective standard, just name recognition" but I guess that would have been too long.

Leading the list we have a guy who is just a half step ahead of the posse on recruiting violations who is best known for blowing the Championship game to Kansas when he had superior talent and losing this year to WVA when he had far superior talent.  Yea he's a great coach.

you couldn't have said it any better.  A lot of guys are on this list just because they have a big name.  It was wierd that Buzz was left off the list, but Brad Stevens too??? This list sucks

Nah, I put it up there mostly because I laugh at HoopScoop and their ratings.  Plus my boy Stew made the list.  In my mind, Buzz should be on the list, but maybe HoopScoop just hates Buzz because that's the general tantrum that people here have when Buzz is criticized or not coddled enough.

I'd put Buzz somewhere in the 40's.  No question the list is top heavy with programs led by coaches who have enormous talent.  I'm glad someone like Stew made it.  I would have also thrown someone like Brownwell (named Clemson coach yesterday) and others on the list.  Guys that don't have the talent but truly have to coach to get victories.

He didn't just "back Pierre Pierce."  He got two members of Athletes in Action that he knew to approach the victim and talk with her about resolving the case.  (IOW, get the police to plea bargain it out.)  Steve Alford is a f*cking slimeball.

I would rather have Huggins as my coach 100 times over rather than Alford.  At least with Huggins, you know what you are going to get...and I think he has been unfairly criticized by many due to his "I don't give a crap what you think" personality.  At least he keeps it real.
