Thoughts on Jeffrey Jordan as a Golden Eagle?

I **WATCHED** (whoops) him and his younger brother (who looked a hair better, btw) on ESPN2 when Loyola Academy played some crazy team from IN who had a guy named GORDON on the team who was also pretty amazing. 

I realize we are already out of scholarships for next year . . . but who cares? I mean, if MJ can't pay for his kids' tuition, who can? Besides, you never know who might decide to up & leave (::cough::Dameon Mason::coughcough:, or get asked to leave (::cough:: Mortensen::cough:.

Thoughts?

Mortensen was not asked to leave. He lost in status as a NCAA athlete.

Jeff Jordan is a nice high school player, but I don't think we should get in the habit of giving scholarships to kids because of their last name. And if you watched that game on ESPN2, both Jordans played pretty poorly -- their team lost by about 40 points. What about that game made you want them at MU? And why in the world would you want to get rid of somebody on the current roster for a marginal player with a famous father? That's just crazy talk

I doubt adding Jordan to the program involves granting him a scholarship....at least for the first two seasons.  Given Crean's track record of recruiting and developing backcourt talent, it might be worth a shot.  As for the 'marginal player' gig -- keep in mind that MU snared Cubillan over somebody like Florida Atlantic or FIU.  If Jordan were a post player, I'd agree with u though

JJ isn't good enough to get playing time at mu... than again, mj wasn't very good in high school either.  I'd rather we held off and got his brother.

That's a good point, however I believe we signed David early when higher profile teams (other than MU) were not yet interested. I think it's been posted that we would have had greater recruiting competiton had he waited to sign. There is no such competition for Jordan's services. I've heard Loyola is interested. I just don't think he's right for Marquette.

Loyola U in Chicago is very interested in Jeff, and I think the Horizon league is a good fit for his skills.  Marcus is a bit taller and more of an athlete.  He will be recruited with more intensity then Jeff was.

Loyola Academy has a number of other very good kids, a junior SG Rob Belcore and Bill Wennington's kid is a freshman and has been listed as something crazy like 6'10. 

Speaking of Loyola, Colin Falls just became Nd's all time leading 3 point shooter, we could have used him as a senior this year (I recall we were in his final three).

Sorry, I was thinking about the younger brother and meant to say that MJ wasn't good as a sophmore.  He didn't make the team as a freshman and didn't start as a soph... i'm fairly sure i heard that somewhere repuable.

MJeff's high school team never took any sophomores up to varsity---no matter how good, so his coach played him at JV.  MJeff easily could have played varsity his so. year in hs.  Over time the story has evolved to say that he was cut from his high school time.  Simply not true.

Michael Jordan AVERAGED a triple double his senior year in high school.  Just in case anybody wanted to know. 

As for Jeff...he has progressed nicely into a solid mid-major player.  Nobody is stupid enough to judge a kid based on one out of state road game.  Smart kid, smart player.  He "gets" it.  And he will be a very nice mid-major player.  He isn't a high major. 

I like Sullivan as well who is headed to Brown next year.

Being a Loyola Alum and seing him play several times here are thoughts on him, if its worth anything to anybody, Jeff seems to be a really good high school player.  I see him as a a pure point guard who can penetrate well and dish well, and plays shut down defense at times.  Playing in the Big East though seems maybe out of his league, although I have heard Georgetown is in his final choices along with Illinois, I havent heard much about him going to Marquette.  Also George Washington is what I have heard too, GW and Loyola seem to be good mid-major programs where he would probably best succeed, although I don't know if those schools live up to the JORDAN brand.

Too bad I didn't proofread my initial post, all I said was that I watched them play, not that I wanted JJ to be @ MU necessarily... it could be interesting though.  Personally I'd prefer Marcus at this point, but meh.  We already have Christopherson coming in for next year, yes?

And I never said I wanted anyone to leave, but certainly in light of a certain player's academic ineligibility...
