I found this pretty funny.

Senegal is a large country.

You know nothing of Barro's or Dieng's "background" except that they are from the same country.

bahahahhaa.

If I was 6'10' and thinking of playing in Europe and another 6'10" player from the Midwest of the United States had played there, I would appreciate his input on what it is like at the school/city for someone with a similar (I guess that is the word we disagree on) background.  I'd consider that similar and take the person's phone call.  I would give his opinon of the area a lot of weight too.  Just me though. Maybe not everyone would, but cannot imagine it hurting.

And I actually use Marquette, my grad school, and where I am from as the starting point of a lot of networking.  It's an easy thing to use to relate to people.  A great starting point and a good reason for people to take my call.  I have never been laughed at, nor have I ever heard any being laughed at...

I also appreciate Buzz using his similar background of being from Texas as probably the starting point of a lot of recruiting down there.

If I'm from Colorado and you're from Wisconsin (?) and we both move to Florida, I think we might perceive and it might be fair to say that we don't have similar backgrounds (although there likely will be some similarities).  If I'm from Colorado and you're from Wisconsin and we both move to Senegal, I think we might perceive and it might be fair to say that we have similar backgrounds (although there likely will be some dissimilarities).

Sometimes things are relative.
Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

Excellent way of looking at it.

State Street Warrior

While I agree it is a good way to look at it, I think it looses a little bit of strength in this case since he moved to the us ___years ago (someone can find that, I'm I little lazy today).  If you were moving directly from one country to another yeah, no matter where you are from in your home country it would more similar.

Also I doubt his ultimate goal as a player being recruited by several high major programs is to play in Europe, his goal is most likely NBA as should all recruits coming in.  Realistically though, he would like to at least play in Europe I would expect.

Even with all of that I would agree that talking to someone like Ousmane wouldn't hurt if I were in Dieng's shoes.  And I would answer the phone and listen to any advice or insight he had.

Uhh, that blank is only a fraction of a year.  He's only been in the USA since October.
