I have heard we got a big all set to surprise commit to Marquette on signing day.  I posted it early last week.  i don't know who the recruit is either.  Maybe someone is transfering in or de committing from a verbal to sign a LOI.  Who knows.  Maybe it is another project.  Regardless, I have the same info regarding a 2010 big.

Well i hope this is true then. But please let it be someone better than Yous.

What's wrong with Yous?

I'd rather have Murphy rather than Gardner if I had my choice. But a decent sized big with some decent skills would be nice either way.

Oh thanks for the information. I must have misremembered. I also just looked at ESPN and Maurice Walker is listed as 6'10 270. I know awhile ago he was considered a pipe dream, probably still is, and I'm not sure if he has committed somewhere yet.

As exciting as it is for a possible new commitment, I wish it was for 2011. I hate to see someone transfer.

PGsHeroes32

As long as that transfer is Yous im more than happy with it.

What's your problem with Yous?

No supporter of this program should EVER be happy with a transfer of a player in good standing. Yous is a player that has done nothing but work hard, deal with the NCAA Clearinghouse and continue to develop as a player.

He deserves as much support as your namesake Hayward. You sound like a spoiled assclown.

Agreed, I would much rather be hearing about 2011 commitments. Anyway this comes out I won't be completely happy.

It would also seem odd for Buzz, with a team of little height, would switch a 7'2" sophomore for a 6'8-6'10 freshman.

What were you expecting? Should EWill be packing his bags as well?

For someone who loves the term 'house-Creaning', I would expect a less transfer supportive attitude.

Shut up. If we are going to lose one of our players to transfer it has to be Yous, that is obvious. He is clearly the weakest link that we got right now and may never be an asset. Nobody is spoiled, you are just ignorant and stupid. I love Hayward because of what he has done for this program for 4 years and hes been a great guy and leader. Now unnatural carnal knowledge off.

Then go up to Yous and say that to him. Real tough guy hiding behind your keyboard.

It's ridiculous to want to run a guy off. Look, we all knew he was a project coming into it, and he's worked hard on and off the court. He's been through a ton being a long way from home, and handled himself well. This isn't the pros, chief. And I don't want our program operating like it either. The same could have been said about Ousmane after one year too. But he stayed and became a solid player, and was the first to get a degree in his family. Yous should get that same chance.

I guess "fans" like you are the downside of success. So freaking entitled.

Nice response.

I like to think that our program is above running off players now. If that makes me ignorant and stupid, then so be it. I like to believe Marquette can offer a shred of decency to the college basketball landscape.

I remember a time when Ousmane Barro was clearly the weakest link, had very little basketball skills, and had no reason being on the court. He was a great person, developed into a leader, and was an asset.

PGsHeroes32

Because the question was asked how do we make room for a possible key recruiting addition? If we had to get rid of someone Id want it to be Yous hands down. Learn to read dumbass. Im not hiding behind the keyboard from anyone. So are you trying to say that if Wade were to come back and play some college ball but Yous had to be gone, you would keep Yous?

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. Yous may be the nicest guy in the world and a model citizen. Don't know him. And, life is probably a bitch also when you're 7'2" and can't play basketball. But, his basketball IQ is zero. That coupled with his lack of experience and frail body makes him a bad fit for MU and Big East competition. Just the facts, not making this smack up.
NCAA scholarships are one year at a time and renewable thereafter. Stuff happens. Just sayin', players come and go. Probably the reality of big time money athletics and it happens in every program. Don't want  to see a habit made of it. Yes, Crean did it and continues the practice. Buzz as well. Don't believe all that's reported as fact. Hazel left, Roseboro left, JMay left also. Who's next. It's business and people's livelihood depends on making the correct decisions.

4ever, I can agree 100 percent with you, but I can't root for a player to transfer. I think you'd agree with me there.

Never advocating running someone off if they're holding up there end of the agreement just because their talent level is lacking. Everyone contributes to the basketball program in their own way. Frozen A wasn't a recruited athlete to MU, but I'm very impressed with his enthusiasm and support of his teammates. Clearly he "contributes" and is well liked while livin' the dream. When an athlete is offered $150,000 scholarship, expectations come with it. All I'm saying is, don't be surprised to see additions and subtractions to our roster, for any number of reasons, year to year.

I agree with everything that PTM has said.  We offered Yous a scholarship and he accepted it.  If he's slacking off and has a bad attitude, it's one thing.  If he's working his butt off to become the best player he can be (even if he can't become a good player at all) I'm going to support him 100% of the way, and I would hope (and trust) Buzz and everyone in the athletic department would do the same.  Yes, scholarships are year to year, but if you offer one to a player and he does everything he can to become a better player and person off the court then he should be able to stay on scholarship for all 4 years.  In fact, I'm hoping that Yous can get a medical redshirt and can be around for 5 years.  One image I'll always remember is he was one of 2 players to lift Lazar up off the court after he missed the half court shot (can't remember who else helped him up...for some reason just Yous sticks in my mind).  The kid is 7'2", runs the court very well for being 7'2", and is fairly athletic.  Do I think he'll be an All Big East player?  Nope.  But do I think he could be a solid contributer in his 3rd or 4th year?  Yup.  He's been around the game for a relatively short amount of time.  He's only going to get better.  And it's not like we've had great success with very many big men at Marquette, so why not try?  Do we really want a roster of 13 players under 6'6"?  What's the point?  I suppose at this point I'd rather have a 7'2" freshman bench warmer than a 6'2" freshman bench warmer.  We've had plenty of 6'2" studs, the 6'2" projects will never see the court at Marquette.  The 7'2" ones just might.

And for those who think Erik Williams would leave, I for one would be shocked.  I know it was a while ago and there's now a full season behind him with not much playing time, but having talked to all of the players at Marquette Madness, he was the most enthusiastic and genuinely happy player on the team.  He said he loved everything about Marquette and didn't mind the cold because he loved everything else.  He was always surprisingly enthusiastic and encouraging on the bench (as was Yous).  If I was a top 60 freshman and saw about 2 mpg my freshman year, I'd probably just sulk on the bench quite a bit.  He always seemed to have a very positive attitude.  (Jamail Jones also seemed to absolutely love Marquette at Marquette Madness.  He was very polite and excited).

I hope our roster stays the same next year and we get a stud big in 2011.  If we add another player, I hope the rumors that have been thrown around here that Yous's parents are very wealthy are true and he is going to pay his way throughout Marquette and open up a roster spot for another player (very unlikely, but the only way I'd be happy with adding another recruit).

bamamarquettefan

sorry to ask a stupid question, but if they were to all sign can one player choose to red shirt for a year and not count against our limit.  Sorry, I'm stupid on the recruiting side.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

bamamarquettefan

Wow, if Gardner is signing that would sure protect Jimmy et al from getting pushed around underneath.  We really are losing all our muscle underneath with Lazar leaving, and a guy that size would be a wonderful option, though I don't know anything about his game.

Unfortunately, red-shirts still take up a scholarship.
