If it is just us and Louisville I believe that they will go to our record against the top team in the BigEast.  (i.e. Record vs. #1, then #2, until we aren't tied).

If it is us 'Ville and another team then it creates a mini-conference between all that are tied.

Actually just looked at that this AM. Really tough to say - both lost to G'town, so that N/A. Becase we played different number of games against Pitt, that one will not apply either  whether we win or lose on 3/3. After that it, if we are talking about MU-UL in a 3rd/4th place tie, it will depend on who finishes 5th (or in a tie for 5th). It will be record against the 5th place team, or winning % against teams that are tied. Pretty hard to predict at this point, but losses against Syracuse, Providence and DePaul make me think we may be left on the short end however - Louisville didn't play WVU. Hopefully we could be talking about a tie for 3rd, because then who cares? Not much difference between 3rd and 4th.

Considering that UofL plays Seton Hall, UConn and St. Johns, it's unlikely that we wind up tied--even if we win out they need one more loss.

But, for us to prevail in a head to head comparision, threee things mush happen:

a) we win out.
b) Louisville loses one more game.
c) Notre Dame must finish ahead of both DePaul and Syracuse.

Pitt:  No advantage MU at 2-0 does not beat UofL 1-0
Georgetown:  No advantage--both teams 0-1
UofL/MU:  No advantage in head-to-head
WVU:  No advantage:  Both teams 1-0
Notre Dame:  Advantage Marquette--assuming we beat ND.
Syracuse:  Advantage Louisville
DePaul:  Advantage Louisville

Louisville will win out.....Louisville has two of three at home and does not play a team with a winning record in the Big East.  Ville hosts SJU on 2/21, travels to UConn on 2/25, and closes with the Hall at home on 3/4.  Projected record, 3-0 (22-8, 12-4).

Ville will finish 3rd overall.

Louisville will win out.....

To quote Corso... Not so fast, my friend!!

I think the one thing we've seen in Big East play is that there are no gimmies... while Louisville should win out on paper, I bet they'll get one more loss.  They're not that good of a team that will run the tables on the rest of their schedule.  Seton Hall looked very good vs. Pitt last night, UConn is loaded with talent, and St. Johns... well maybe they'll win that one.

I think Louisville drops at least one of their last 3.  They're still a young team capable of laying an egg.  Add that to the fact that the 3 teams that they play are all at the bottom of the cut-off for making the BIGEast tourney and I think they'll get caught off guard at least once.

We can hope for the 3 seed, in the BET, but to lock up the 4 seed we could also use a little help from some Catholic BE brethren.  Tonight DePaul can give Notre Dame another loss, and Providence (at home) can give WVU another loss.  Then again on Sat we should all be big Providence fans because they have a shot at home (where they're tough) to take down Syracuse.

Looking at DePaul's remaining games, I think I'd prefer to see them lose tonight, and we can take care of ND ourselves.

agreed.....if DPU wins tonight, they won't lose again in the reg season.  MU doesnt need help to get a bye --

There is NO WAY Louisville will lose at home to Seton Hall or Saint Johns.  UConn on the road may give them a little trouble, but I have seen more of UConn than I have of MU and trust me, if you think we can't shoot, you need to watch them.  We shoot like Larry Bird compared to them.  If they get lucky and have a great shooting game, they may be able to beat Louisville, but I doubt it.

The four teams out of the BE tournament are pretty well established now.  They are Seton Hall, USF, Rutgers and Cincy.

Put me down for UL finishing 12-4.

Question .. Since we're now playing for seeding to NCAAs, which helps us more?

1. Getting a bye, losing = one loss (hopefully to quality team)
2. Not getting a bye, winning 1, losing the next = 1 extra win, 1 loss to quality team.
3. (clearly worst) Not getting a bye, losing = one loss

(Clearly, winning the BET or winning 2-3 games is the best outcome.  Those are best case scenarios .. these 3 are worst case.)

1. is the best.

You want to get the bye. The committee is lees likely to leap frog someone in the seeding based on regular season.

Louisville's RPI really isn't very good because their schedule is so soft this year.  It will be interesting to see how the committee treats them.  Three crap games coming up with a RPI already in the 50's.

I was thinking about this earlier...beyond playing on Saturday, I don't think the BE tournament will have much impact at all on our seed. If we play in the final, I think we move up a rung. Short of that however I don't see much impact.

Actually, even if we win out, we would need somebody to beat Syracuse.
