I say yes, but Im starting to get nervous!

TallTitan34

No is unrealistic.

Illinois and UConn are still somehow in the hunt.  We have a better resume then both of those schools and several others who are trying to get in.

warriors1991

UConn should not be in any kind of consideration. They finished 12th in the conference, 15 losses, and rolled over like dogs to a (maybe) average St. Johns team.
If UConn gets in, there needs to be an official investigation into a bribe.
Who cares who they beat? Did East Carolina deserve a bid in 2003 just because they beat us once? Give me a break.

YoungMUFan4

if not us...then who?

PGsHeroes32

what the hell does St. Marys have to do with anything?

I think a lot of freak things would need to happen for MU to not get in.  I think at least 4 of the automatic bids would have to go to teams that had no shot of making the tournament before.

PGsHeroes32

Do you even watch basketball? Are you even a fan? You realize that we have like a 11 team cushion right? You realize St. Mary's was in regardless right? You realize that the only tourney left that can really "steal" a bid is C-USA right?

for sake of discussion.........Butler, Old Dominion, Northern Iowa, Siena.

you're either really funny or really dumb.  I'll give you the benefit of doubt and guess at the former.

RawdogDX you are much too nice.  Anyone with the moniker "chitownwomanizer" is a meatball!

This is like asking if Louisville or Georgetown are in.  Yes, we're in. Case closed.  Done.  Doesn't matter what happens tomorrow, Marquette is in the NCAA tournament.

Even if we're blown out, we're in.  11-7 in the Big East with a bubble this soft, MU is in no matter what happens tomorrow.

I hope you haven't jinxed us.  :-\

The only we don't make it is if all the favorites in this weeks conference tourneys get upset.

Seton Hall, Cincy, St. Johns, or South Florida winning the Big East
Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois winning the Big 10
Colorado winning the Big 12
Georgia winning the SEC
North Carolina winning the ACC
TCU winning CUSA

Even if all of this happens, still find it hard to believe we wouldn't go dancing.

Are we a single digit seed if we lose is the real question given the strength of other teams right now.  To think we have any chance of not being in means you're braindead.  St. Mary's?  They were going to be in as a 10 or 11, now they're in as a 9 or 10.  No change to our status.

ATWizJr

Dumb poll.  Dumb post. Dumb.

GGGG

Marquette's in the tournament.  No doubt about it.  Even with a loss today.

St. Mary's was likely in before they even beat Gonzaga.

NavinRJohnson

How many people are going to ask this? MU is in, and its not close.

The bubble that ESPN posts is total bull$hit. I understand that what the sites posts are opinions only but look at several other sites (Yahoo, etc.) that have us as an 8 or 9 currently. Please tell me how losing to St. Johns will drop us out of the tournament?? Of course were in.

Enough of the conference tournaments have been played with no teams making
the dance that weren't already getting in (outside of the smaller conferences). ESPN just likes to get their jollies off so people will watch the tournaments on ESPN prior to the dance. I am savoring the CBS coverage of the dance until ESPN receives it and destroys it.

I'm not sure if I overheard this or read it somewhere, but ESPN is behind expanding the tourney.  Gee, I wonder why.

I happened to catch PTI yesterday and they had Jay Wright on and asked him his opinion on expanding the tournament and he said he was for it. His explanation was something along the lines that over the past couple of seasons 40 or so teams have been added to Division I basketball, which allows a smaller percentage of teams into the tournament.

Kornheiser then said to Wright that isn't it true that coaches want to expand the tournament so that they make the tournament every year, since your season is viewed as a failure if you do not make it? Of course Wright didn't answer the question.

Yes, more teams have been added to Division I but how many of those teams have made the tournament?? Question for anyone, I will do research

So 40 institutions have added D1 basketball and we want to add 32 to the tourny?  Makes no sense.  I would consider adding 7 teams so that their would be a total of 8 play-in games with the winners facing 1st and 2nd seeded teams.  Those would still be slam dunk wins for the number 1 seeds but the 2 seeds could possibly have tougher matcups and we could get a rare upset.

One of the reasons I've turned to adding more teams to the tournament isn't so much that there are more D1 teams as that there seem to be more conferences and thus automatic bids. 20 or so teams in the tournament every year are probably not in the best 65 teams in basketball, which is what I think the tournament should be. Some teams are dancing merely because they won their conference, not because they play consistently quality basketball.

I dont think this is as devious as it sounds though. If more teams get in, not getting in looks even worse.  Fans of power programs won't be happy with bubble berths (see Gillespie, Billy)  In the long run, I don't think it helps the employment positions of coaches of the top 40 programs in the country very much. Its more likely to help the Wichita States of the world who seem to be perennially on the bubble, or cyclical programs like Cincinnati or Washington, etc.
