Here's all I can get from it....""I still like Buzz Williams. He's a cool guy and that's why I picked Marquette - the coach - but things just didn't work out there. ..."

VegasWarrior77

So now JM gets to play the post on the scout team...!

He was tired of playing the post for Marquette, so he transferred to Tennessee ... where - as fate would have it - he plays the post for the scout squad in practice each day.
I really wish there was some person who sit this kid down and explained to him that he's not a 2 guard when he was thinking about leaving.  This doesn't make me feel good, or make me happy.  It just depresses me.  This poor kid would be getting 20 minutes a game here, and would probably be a big help to us.  He surely would have developed a competent offensive game by now, and could really have given lazar and butler a break.  Add on to the fact that he basically would have been guarrenteed a starting spot next year, and you have a tragedy.  Now he is at UT, where he will fight for playing time at the same position he would have had at Marquette, against much better players.  This kid's father, if the rumors are true, needs to be punched in the face.

PJDunn

He will end up being an above average SEC player by his senior year and nothing more.  My hope is that he realizes that the NBA is not in his future and he gets as good an education as possible in Knoxville.

Addition by subtraction.  I'm SOOOO glad he's gone only because it means papa is gone.  It's a package deal with those two, and that makes it a good thing he is no longer here.  Completely understand your logic, and it is a shame, but as soon as you factor in dad in the process, well it becomes a moot argument in my opinion.  He just isn't worth it.

If you try to rationalize what went on here...try to get inside the head of Jeronne or Tim...try to come up with what "should've" been done...you are going to give yourself a headache.

Tough situation. Oh well.

Agreed.  Hope it all works out for him, cuz it was a boneheaded move, and he didn't appear to "take control" of his own situation.

nyg

Now he has to attempt to take minutes away from Renaldo Wooldridge and one of the highest ranked 2010 freshman in the country, UT signee Tobias Harris.  Good luck with that.

Good find Chicos.  Would love to know what the rest of that article says.  I think that statement that he chose MU due to Buzz, and still likes Buzz..pretty much says his transfer was all his Dad's doing -as most on here have speculated.  I really think if a player has a good relationship with the coach..and tells coach he's thinking about transferring - that coach and player sit down and talk, and coach lays out the case for staying and player chooses to stay because he likes/respects the coach.  At least JMay didn't throw Buzz under the bus, and he probably didn't with Vander Blue either.

Agree 100%.

MuMark

It says he had to play in the post due to injuries and he wasn't able to "show what he could do".

Its all stuff we already knew.

Makes me appreciate Lazar that much more.........

Well, Jeronne will have a great seat on the bench watching Bruce Pearl sweat through his t-shirt, collared shirt, vest, tie, jacket and any other piece of clothing he has on his torso...

Good find Chicos.

It came to me actually.  It was part of my daily emails I receive on MU....I just cut and paste it here.

Why do you read a post about someone you do not care about and then respond to it?  You can ignore it.

It does make one wonder about the team chemistry though. With arguable less talent, we seem to be performing better.  It is just a sad situation for Maymon.

I almost feel bad for him... but I just don't.  He is a quitter, he will never be a good player for UT, he clearly thought he was way better than he was, he didn't want to work hard to develop his game, and his dad seems like a real character.  Do you think, if he could do it again, he would still transfer? My guess is no, he would probably stay at MU, play 15 minutes a game and be a solid contributor off the bench.

The Pickle

I don't know what the rest of the article said but to his credit at least he didn't take a cheap shot at Buzz or Marquette...

shiloh26

He didn't take a cheap shot because it seems that *HE* doesn't have any problem with Marquette... its too bad that his father exercises so much influence over him, and I don't mean bad for MU, but bad for him.  He'd be getting good minutes here, and he already showed skill as a rebounder.  Another 2 years and who knows.  Now he'll be fighting for the post minutes he didn't want.

Not that this isn't true, but in case you hadn't noticed, Buzz has his own perspiration issues.

Then why the heck would Maymon leave?   ;D

PGsHeroes32

He didnt take a cheap shot because he realizes he fu*ked up and that we are better off with out him. He probably sees the remarkable season we are having and the great story this team has become all because while he decided to bail and quit when things got tough, everyone who stayed just worked harder and are having the times of their lives.
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

I agree with this 100%, and wish JMay good luck.  No reason to be bitter, MU has gone on to have a great season.  I don't understand why some have ill-will toward the kid.  I don't think he quit MU, so much as his Dad pulled him if his demands weren't met.  It would be hard for most 18 year old kids to turn their back on their Dad - certainly some could do it, but I don't think its an enviable situation for any 18 year old kid to have to deal with..and to pass judgement on JMay for following his father is..well...judgemental, and isn't that God's job?
