I never posted anything bad about theseplayers but I was a skeptic. I apologize to both for my skepticism. Great game guys

The Pickle

Kudos to those guys and glad to see Jones sucking it up...

Acker and Cubillan are playing very well. The difference this year has really seemed to be that they play their role, not trying to do too much.

As for Jones, I love that DJO seems to have chosen to focus on his defense tonight. Especially with Acker scoring, DJO's offense isn't so key tonight. He's playing solid defense against Jones. It is not only that Jones is "sucking it up."

WellsstreetWanderer

DJO is sucking tonight on O. 1-5 and now a travel

Not sure it'll be the consensus, but I'll give Acker my vote for SotG.  My knock on him at the beginning of the year was that taking care of the ball is great, but we don't have the talent to have a point guard who just takes care of the ball and can't make plays.  That point is moot when the little dude makes plays like he did tonight, and has been doing much of the season, while still taking care of the ball.

normally i'd agree, but i think the SOG has to be acker tonight.

WarriorHal

If Acker had made the 1 and 1 when the game was still in doubt, he probably would have been SOG. Lazar came through at the end so he gets my vote for SOG.

I still think Cubillan is the less skilled of the two, but it is Acker who gives up the height (dis)advantage.

Those two seniors, because they aren't the BMOCs, have little ego to really threaten the team mindset.
They're playing above and beyond my pre-season expectations; they're also very unselfish (mostly, *cough* Coobey three *cough*).

I agree.  Zar picked up numbers in the last couple minutes after it was decided

NCMUFan

I give SOG to Lazar.  He was pulling down the rebounds at the end to save Marquette's azz.

WellsstreetWanderer

Zar picked up 4 rebounds at the end of  the game and those were key to keeping them from scoring . Mo's missed free throw was almost deja vu

DJO stopped the other team's NBA quality player. The fact his offense was off is forgiven.

I think a lot of this fall into this category, kudos to you for acknowledging the players success.  I think more than a few people around here just don't have the nads to swallow a little humble pie.

Cubi was great early, I really thought Mo was SOG in transition, but its hard to argue with 18/14 -go, Zar!

It's interesting there have been several Scoopers who have consistently complained about Mo and Cubi, and continued to question why these 2 guys were on the floor together..ever...I do think since Buzz has gone to Mo and Cubi as starters and brought Buycks off the bench this team is 5-0.  Buycks gives the team some juice off the bench, and I think having Cubi and MO on the floor together better spaces the floor - as both are better 3 point shooters than Buycks.  As for their D, Cubi has been pretty strong all year, and MO gets the most out of his body as he can.

Mo and Cubie are playing better than allor most of us thought they would.  They are a big reason why we are where we are right now.  They take care of the ball, and whenthey get hot shooting, look out- they demand respect from the outside

There's definitely a lot of crow to be eaten around here. Just look at some of the threads from early this fall. I remember several who were INSISTENT that there was "no way" these two could make ANY contributions in Big East play. They acknowledged their great play against all the cream puffs, but were pretty open about their criticisms, and predicted only the worst for conference action.

Congrats on two solid MU athletes for showing them wrong! They've worked hard and are bettering their team significantly! Each has stepped up when needed. Good for them.

Stronghold

These 2 seniors have been in the background the last 3 years.  However, their experience is definitely helping us right now and they deserve respect.  I'm glad we have them on our team.  Never have to worry about either of these guys not going hard.

+1 - Personally, I didn't expect to see this type of production from MO and Cubi, but also didn't ever post anything negative about them.  They are definitely defying the odds, and getting the most out of their ability.  It's no wonder where the Napoleon Complex comes from - considering how many doubt Cubi and Mo because of their size, it should come as no surprise that they are using all the criticism etc., to fuel their fire and make them overachieve...and produce the kind of results we are seeing this year.  Thumbs up to Mo and Cubi.

These guys have come up HUGE this year. look at the disparity in TOs between MU and competition. Mo and Cubs are Studs very game

tower912

Cubi hit the 3 from the corner in the second half and he paused for just a beat.   I thought we were going to see the freshman year shimmy make a return.  But then he ran down the floor.    Mo and Cubi have exceeded expectations, no doubt about it.

Anothere great performance by Junior Mint Acker.Where would we be without him?

Eye

Couldn't agree more on Acker. He was fantastic last night IMHO. That push he had when MU didn't have numbers about midway through the second half and everybody else on the floor for both teams looked winded to Cubillan for a wide-open three in the right corner was one of the best plays of the night I thought.
GO WARRIORS!
