Probably will happen within the year. Who's in for the extra $75/yr? I'd do it if I can claim WARRIORS. What would yours read?

Is it really that much?

Wow.

I'd love to have them, but that's a lot of $ every year.

$75 a year is $6.25 a month.  Not bad at all, IMO.

My regular plates (well the 2010 sticker) cost me $96 this year.  There is a "wheel tax" in MKE county.  Stupid Barret.

One of you admins should claim MUSCOOP.

15 years later.   That's great.  We tried to do this in 1995 and again in 1999 but were stonewalled by the state.  It's a wonderment what govt will cave in on when they are so cash strapped

Kinda funny is that vanity plates in New Hampshire are free, so EVERYONE has one.

First off .. really?  I haven't seen anything about a new Marquette vanity plate!  I know it was discussed a few years back, but didn't know it was up again.

Second .. special plates are a bargain.  Usually there's an upfront donation, like $25 (not sure where the $75 came from, but it could be.)

The Packer plate, for example is $15 to issue, $25 each year thereafter extra. I doubt they'd charge $75/year for MU plates if the GB one is $25/year.

Personalized plates are probably what people are thinking about.  They are an additional $15/year on top of the usual $75/year everyone pays, so $90.

Honestly, personalized plates are so cheap, I don't know why everyone doesn't do it.  $15 a year?  That's a magazine subscription.  I have AHOYA.  Think of all the MU words you could do.

yea, but is that on top of the $100 per year I already pay?

$175 per year to register my car?

I guess that just seems like a lot to me. *shrug*

Before he passed away, my Dad had MURARA for probably 20 years.

To reiterate .. my guess is that a special MU plate is $15-25 to issue, and $25 ongoing .. on top of the USUAL $75 you already pay each year.

When I last lived in MN I paid $195 per year for regular non-vanity plates.

February 4 edition of the MU Trib has the story on the front page. State Rep Pedro Colon and Sen. Jeff Plale, both alums sponsor the legislation. Passed the Assembly Transportation Committee and was approved by the full Assembly on Jan. 28. Senate bill is now under consideration. Plate would cost a total of $90. $75 for the initial reg. fee and $15 for the specialized issuance fee.

Now that doesn't sound too bad. $75 one time, and then $15 per year? I could get down with that.

Sir Lawrence

About time.  I regularly email Rep. Vukmir, a MU nursing grad, about MU plates, and I don't think she's ever responded.

But then on top of that, would they charge for the vanity fee?  Whatever that is, $40 or $50 per year?  So you could get an MU plate for $15, but they might try to swindle a few extra sheckles out of you if you wanted to personalize it...

My mistake, still, such a ridiculous fee.  Maybe they can raise the sales tax again...oh yeah, they did.

Quote"We will work with people from Marquette to come up with a design," Frazier said.

Why do I have a really bad feeling about that?  I mean, it should be a simple, easy thing to do, but we all know there's a good chance they will pick the people who manage to screw it up and make the plates look stupid.

Also, if the 11 not-Madison UW campuses total just over 1100 plates, it's a joke that MU has not been given a plate.  I think we can manage more than 100 orders from those in the state.

WellsstreetWanderer

Any truth to the rumour that license plates are made by UW alumni?

By the way my license plates here in SoCal cost over $500 yr. That's a lot of beer money dwon the drain
