MU Vanity Plates In WI

Probably will happen within the year. Who's in for the extra $75/yr? I'd do it if I can claim WARRIORS. What would yours read?

Is it really that much?

Wow.

I'd love to have them, but that's a lot of $ every year.

$75 a year is $6.25 a month.  Not bad at all, IMO.

My regular plates (well the 2010 sticker) cost me $96 this year.  There is a "wheel tax" in MKE county.  Stupid Barret.

15 years later.   That's great.  We tried to do this in 1995 and again in 1999 but were stonewalled by the state.  It's a wonderment what govt will cave in on when they are so cash strapped

Kinda funny is that vanity plates in New Hampshire are free, so EVERYONE has one.

First off .. really?  I haven't seen anything about a new Marquette vanity plate!  I know it was discussed a few years back, but didn't know it was up again.

Second .. special plates are a bargain.  Usually there's an upfront donation, like $25 (not sure where the $75 came from, but it could be.)

The Packer plate, for example is $15 to issue, $25 each year thereafter extra. I doubt they'd charge $75/year for MU plates if the GB one is $25/year.

Personalized plates are probably what people are thinking about.  They are an additional $15/year on top of the usual $75/year everyone pays, so $90.

Honestly, personalized plates are so cheap, I don't know why everyone doesn't do it.  $15 a year?  That's a magazine subscription.  I have AHOYA.  Think of all the MU words you could do.

yea, but is that on top of the $100 per year I already pay?

$175 per year to register my car?

I guess that just seems like a lot to me. *shrug*

To reiterate .. my guess is that a special MU plate is $15-25 to issue, and $25 ongoing .. on top of the USUAL $75 you already pay each year.

February 4 edition of the MU Trib has the story on the front page. State Rep Pedro Colon and Sen. Jeff Plale, both alums sponsor the legislation. Passed the Assembly Transportation Committee and was approved by the full Assembly on Jan. 28. Senate bill is now under consideration. Plate would cost a total of $90. $75 for the initial reg. fee and $15 for the specialized issuance fee.

You've got to pay for the Vikings stadium somehow... errrr....

Now that doesn't sound too bad. $75 one time, and then $15 per year? I could get down with that.

But then on top of that, would they charge for the vanity fee?  Whatever that is, $40 or $50 per year?  So you could get an MU plate for $15, but they might try to swindle a few extra sheckles out of you if you wanted to personalize it...

Also, if the 11 not-Madison UW campuses total just over 1100 plates, it's a joke that MU has not been given a plate.  I think we can manage more than 100 orders from those in the state.

It is a joke that the state has limited these to UW System schools only.  None of the private schools have plates.  Here in Indiana, all of the private schools have plates.  I have actually seen some states that have out-of-state school license plates.  For instance, I think you can get an Auburn plate in Georgia.

There's an insane amount in Pennsylvania.  I've seen Cal and Michigan plates, in addition to a bunch of closer out of state schools (Seton Hall, Rutgers).

Ya, as many of you know license plates are made in various state prisons. So I'm sure there are plenty of UW alum helping make these, particularly football players.

Marquette's requirements are that you have to graduate to be considered an alumnus.  Other schools have different standards.  Where I work, you have to complete two years to be considered an alum.  However we don't know about you unless you "self-identify" yourself as an alumnus.

That is false according to the alumni office. Anyone who attended is considered an alum according to MU. You are just not a graduate.

I actually called them before making my post.  I could have gotten wrong information.  But I specifically lied and told them that I only completed three years, and they said I was not an alum.

Red Volvo wagon?  I think that's Dr. Meyer, he had AU N Eagle last year.

He lives a block from me .. lets his kids pick a new plate every year.  Has something different now.

One of my all time favorite professors....

Saw a guy going to the Pitt game with the vanity plate MU Law. Dunno if that's someone on this board but I can imagine how many other people want that plate.

I can't imagine wanting the world to know I'm a lawyer.

I would think twice about road-raging on you if I saw that plate out of fear that you'd sue my pants off :)

Marquette's requirements are that you have to graduate to be considered an alumnus.  Other schools have different standards.  Where I work, you have to complete two years to be considered an alum.  However we don't know about you unless you "self-identify" yourself as an alumnus.

Are you positive on that? I heard for Marquette Magazine purposes and stuff, you only need so many credits.

Don't have to be a graduate to donate is probably what the angle is there.

Thought I should revive this post just to inform everyone that the State Senate will hear this bill today. they're hearing a bunch of bills that are expected to pass unanimously so I assume this'll be one of those. I'd love to see (and support) a hardcore badger fan vote against this bill, just for fun (http://www.dawgsports.com/2009/1/28/738424/u-s-representative-jack-ki).

So, is there a design out there already - or will that follow the legislation getting passed?

Probably will be the monogram, seal or logo. hopefully the monogram in seal.

Approved unanimously a bill to create state license plates honoring Marquette University, sending it to Doyle.

The plates would cost $90 a year - $15 more than standard plates.

Unless you are already familiar with it, a driver on the highway, especially if driving in another state, would not be able to figure out what the University Seal even says.  The Seal and the "Marquette Logo" look great on letterhead, not on a license plate.

My vote would be for the Athletics Monogram.

From today's MU News Briefs-

http://www.marquette.edu/about/license_plates/

March 15, 2010 - Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle has signed legislation which will enable Marquette alumni, fans and friends to order specialized license plates carrying the blue-and-gold Marquette monogram. State Sen. Jeff Plale and Rep. Pedro Colon sponsored the legislation.

Allowing approximately six months for design and processing, the license plates should be available by the fall of 2010. Those requesting the plates will pay a $15 one-time fee for the specialized plate, which can be used for 10 years.

If you would like to receive a courtesy e-mail from Marquette when the plates are available for registration and purchase, please enter your name and e-mail address in the form on the right.
