Thought that this was a pretty interesting article to read.  I especially enjoyed the part where it said that students were telling other students to stay in their seats.  I thought it was a pretty classy move on K-State's student section.

Priceless!

It's pathetic.

I'm talking to you, Indiana. For everyone else, please sit down to digest this information: The mighty Indiana basketball program beat historically mediocre Minnesota on Sunday at Assembly Hall -- and the crowd responded by rushing the court.

Minnesota was unranked. And Indiana is Indiana. Well, Indiana was Indiana. I don't care how low Kelvin Sampson sank the program -- you're no longer Indiana when your fans think a win over unranked Minnesota deserves a good court-storming.

RubyWiscy

Kinda like DePaul students rushing the court after a big win over mighty Marquette.  I know it's a rivalry game and all, but come on!

Who would have thought at this point in the season they would have more conference wins than we do?  3 vs 2.   I'll bet no one in America had that one right.

While I would not have expected Indiana to be doing this well, if you compare our schedule to theirs, our opponents have been a little bit easier than ours have. They have beat Michigan (3-3 in conference), Minnesota (3-3), and Penn State (0-6) none of which are ranked and lost to Ohio State (4-3), Illinois (4-2), and Michigan (3-3) one of which is ranked.  Marquette has beat Georgetown (5-2) and Providence (3-3) one which was ranked and lost to WVU (4-2), Nova twice (6-0), and DePaul (1-5) two of which were ranked.  If you compare the opponents its not as surprising.

UCLA, last place in the Pac Ten, winner of 11 NCAA titles, beat Washington on a last second shot.

Their students, rushed the court.

Kids will do what they want to do, especially in times when things are really crappy because they perceive it as a chance to celebrate when they may not have that chance again this year.

People can call it pathetic or stupid or whatever, but it's what 18-22 year olds do.  Marquette students did it when I was at MU and we sucked.  DePaul fans did.  UCLA fans did it.  Indiana fans did it.

It's reality until these teams get good again and their fans will buck up and tell everyone how pathetic every other school is that rush's the court, forgetting that their own students did it not so very long ago.

It seemed to become an IU thread by the second post....was I wrong?  Has Lenny weighed in yet?

The fans of a team should never rush the court unless

1) No-name team beating a top 10 team in non-con play
2) Bottom dwelling team beats top 10 conference opponent
3) Conference underdog wins regular season title at home

Otherwise....celebrate, drink and be merry. Just stay the hell off the court

From the TV vantage point, it look like no one was at the game. Are they still on break or has the mighty fallen that far?

I finally figured it out.  Chicos is Abe.

Honestly, I think fans should be able to rush the court whenever they want.

It's just college kids having fun.

UW rushed the floor when they beat Duke. Good for them.

MU fans rushed the court when they beat Cincinnati. Good for us.

None of it really matters. It's just kids having fun.

Chicos, i have agreed with you more often than not, but this is a worthless post. Go spend your time on their boards, then. Seriously.

It hadn't turned into an IU thread, it was discussing theirs as the paradigm of what is wrong with court-rushing in college b-ball. No need to get all huffy about it.

Chicos stated a fact.  Just because you don't like or want to hear it that fact doesn't mean it isn't interesting or true.  And it certainly was related tangentially related to the discussion.  Far more related than your crybaby post.

Why would you refer to your alma mater as "they"? Isn't IU "we" to you?

OK, but how is a discussion of IU students rushing the court after beating Minnesota at all related to IU's 3 conference wins vs. Marquette's 2? It isn't.

Abe is a MSOE piece of garbage...he's an MU hater and it wouldn't matter if Al McGuire or John Wooden was coaching, he'd crap on MU.  I love MU, thus the difference.

Let's be honest....it's a way for fans of other programs to slam other programs to pronounce "we are too good to be doing this".  That's all it is, a chance to stick a finger in the eye of a program or coach that fans don't like.  Nothing more.

USC fans today are smashing UCLA for doing this, when USC has stormed the court countless times over the years.

RawdogDX

If I knew any 19 year olds I'd probably have a list of things they did that would annoy me.  I think them rushing the court would be pretty low on that list.  It's become culturally acceptable, just get used to it until someone dies and fines start being laid out.

Mods, Delete me please. 8/26/2020

Bucky, Michigan, Indiana all did it this season, each time weaker than the next.   Seriously embarassing.

Having said that, even though it didn't exactly go smoothly,  I think the Depaul students had a legitimate excuse to rush --- their team hadn't won a Big East game in 2 years and ended up beating a heavily favored, much hated rival on a buzzer beater.   I won't begrudge them for that.

Now if they end up winning another game and try to rush then we have a different story.   It would take some extraordinary circumstances to justify rushing the court twice in the same season.

I think MU fans have a pretty respectable record when it comes to this -- rushing after the C-USA title and that is IT.   Haven't done it since.   I like what the says about the state of our program.

I was referring to Abe's habit of claiming to be a MU fan when he was not.  I don't think you are a MU hater, but you seem to have more love for
TC and II, II than MU.

I think it says more about the security at the BC than it does the students.

They would have rushed after Novak's shot against ND if they could have... and certainly there are other instances where the security "guards" held back the crowd.

Yes, but in the 1980's the court was rushed multiple times when we absolutely stunk.  How quickly people forget this.  We rushed the court when we beat Notre Dame, rushed the court when we beat South Florida at the MECCA, rushed the court when we beat Memphis, etc.

In fact, the rushing would have continued if not for the Bradley Center security putting a serious clamp down on the practice.  And I'm sure back then, fans of other teams were probably saying the same thing "act like you've been there before".  Kids will be kids.

MU B2002

We rushed the court in 1998 after beating Cinci, who had just won the Great AK shootout and I think was ranked #2.  Seemed like the fun thing to do then, and still does now.

Let the kids have their fun, who does it really hurt?
