It doesn't matter who we beat. The team did themselves in tonight. Contenders don't lose to DePaul. Hell, pretenders don't even lose to DePaul. There are probably 250 teams in the country that wouldve beat DePaul tonight.

Florida Gulf Coast and American University come to mind

Which year?  The last time MU beat Syracuse was 1983 and that was in Milwaukee.  We've not beaten them there yet.

We will be 15-point underdogs against a team that is much bigger and much quicker and plays a defense that should give us fits. We will play hard but beating Cuse at home is an impossible assignment.

Why is it that losing means we can't beat anybody, but winning means squat?

How can sports fans be so emotional? Teams lose ALL THE TIME. Do you have to rip your heart out and stomp on it with each L?

Unfortunately, some of us do. When Marquette wins, I'm happy. But unless it was a big upset, I figure things turned out the way they should, so no big deal. But when we lose a close game, regardless of whether we were expected to win or lose, I agonize over it for hours and sometimes for a few days. Some people take these games (too) seriously and some don't. Die-hard fans probably take losing harder than the players do. Doesn't make sense, but that's the way it is for people who have a deep emotional commitment to their favorite sports teams. As I use to explain to my mother, it's more than just a game.

Horrible matchup for MU. Our only hope is we shoot lights out from the three. If not, we are 2-5 in conference and sinking fast.

Yes, Willie, we know you are negative.     Thoughts on going forward?   Just once to see what it feels like and to leave the rest of us stunned.

You do not know squat. But anyway, thoughts on going forward: I see improvement, because there is nowhere else to go but improve from the DePaul abortion.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

We will beat Syracuse because,

1.  We are due!
2.  De Paul is a rivalry game and anything can and did happen.
3.  Syracuse will be overconfident like we were.

Every Coach knows highs and lows are part of it, there is still allot of basketball left to play, they will learn from this and bounce back, a script to become a great team.  Stay motivated and ring out ahoya, this team is much better then anyone expected...

Can't think of a worse match-up for MU directly following the DePaul debacle.

If we are not losing or winning by at least 20 points in the final 5 minutes, I will not watch the end of the game. If we're losing, oh well. No big deal. No one expects them to win. If they are winning by 20 MAYBE I will feel confident enough to watch it finish. If we are up by <20, I will simply walk away. I can't stand this heart-breaking loss crap.

That said, if they beat Syracuse (they won't, by the way), I will be back on the bandwagon.

Agreed. also, a seven man rotation in the Dome will be just brutal.

Right on. We'll beat Cuse. Last time I made a prediction MU beat Xavier and Michigan and I haven't made one since. You watch Cuse will have a cold shooting day and we'll be hot in the Carrier Dome. In fact, the Orange will need a Carrier air conditioner to cool MU off.

I would almost agree and say I have a gut feeling MU will pull a big one out, but then I realize the monsters Cuse has down low. MU will have NO answer for that. The only way we win is if they miss a lot of makeable shots and Marquette rebounds like crazy... Oh and we ALSO have to shoot the lights out

Yeah, Jackson and Onuaku are just beasts....they will embarass us. But look at what Jason Love from Xavier did to us inside.....he went for 21 and 19 and we still pulled that game out by 10. I think Butler can match-up with Johnson decently. MU will pull off a shocker and all will be well on MUScoop message board again.

I really do hope you are right, and if you are, id be willing to take off doris' thong with my teeth

The difference is Syracuse's zone. We could get off shots against Xavier. Syracuse is so quick and plays that zone so well on the perimeter there are no open shots. We just don't match up well against a team like that.

As "bad" as Depaul is, their RPI this morning is 134.  To me, that's not bad, that's mediocre.

The way some people have been talking, you would think they're ranked 250 or 300.  Remember, there are 347 teams.  134 out of 347 isn't horrible.  Yes, I get it, we should have beat Depaul.  But if we're going to have a "bad loss" on our resume, I sure would rather it be Depaul than North Florida, Presbyterian, or MD-ES.

And after last night, the NC State (RPI: 82) loss doesn't look as bad as it did 3 weeks ago.

Beat Syracuse this weekend and Depaul will be long forgotten by 4pm EST.

In addition Cuse has big bodies manning that zone-----makes it tough to penetrate into the paint to set up the trey.

Having said that, I think our lackluster performance against DePaul was due in part to looking forward to Cuse----so i think their will be a big upgrade in effort against Cuse, but whether or not that will be enough is open to question because of the Cuse superior talent level.

Big Papi

Syracuse is good.  Real good but they are not invincible.  They will trap us and we will turn the ball over but we will always have 5 guys on the floor with decent ball handling skills, good passing skills and good perimeter shooting.  All good traits to have when playing an aggressive trapping zone defense.  We will get them out of position so if our shot is on, we will have a chance to win.  Depaul didn't do anything special to make us miss those shots.  We just missed.  If we nail our shots like we have all year long, this is a game we could very well steal.  I just don't know how many more heartaches I can take this year.

Jacks DC

Maybe it won't matter, but I like the fact that Syracuse has a nationally televised game against Georgetown on Monday to think ahead to.

Agree.

We seemed to overlook the weaker opponent on Wednesday to the stronger opponent tomorrow. Perhaps the Orange will do the same.

VwArrior1

If we do happen to defeat syracuse, the same people that say this team plays with no heart, they suck, will be the same people that will say the exact opposite when they win. I can't stand bandwagon fans!!!
