No. 11 Marquette (21-4) at No. 22 Georgetown (17-5)
Tom Crean likes to find bulletin-board material in this column, so I won't let him down. Normally, I put a huge emphasis on perimeter play, and Marquette has the clear advantage in that department. But I like the way the Hoyas seem to be coalescing around their identity. It begins with stout defense (they lead the Big East in scoring-D and are third in defensive field-goal percentage). The Hoyas' defensive scheme is not predicated on risk (hence their paltry 5.0 steals per game), but they are good at stopping penetration and forcing teams to beat them with the jump shot. Outside shooting remains Marquette's most glaring weakness. It also appears Georgetown has finally figured out that the only way to win is to constantly feed Roy Hibbert the ball, no matter what the opponent is trying to do. He had 20 points and 22 rebounds in the Hoyas' win at Louisville on Wednesday and will enjoy a significant size advantage against the Golden Eagles.
Georgetown 67, Marquette 63

He was wrong the last time he predicted a Marquette weekend game, (Pitt) so let's hope his streak continues.

I think Crean will definitely use this article to his full advantage. It definitely has alot of fuel for the boys to look at and hopefully turn into intesity come game time.

ChicosBailBonds

I predict the same thing, a MU loss followed by a prediction that posters that haven't been here in weeks will come back to say we cannot go anywhere without Wilt Chamberlain in the middle, etc, etc.

G'Town will be up for this game as will we, but I suspect G'Town probably gets this win.  Hope I'm wrong.

Final Four or Bust

After watching our troubles with Gransberry vs. S. Fla. I think we will have our hands full with the trees of G-Town.  Let's hope I am wrong.

How can it be that people could possibly pick the hoyas when we have the better backcourt?  I would think for sure chicos would think we would coast thru this one as our guards are clearly superior.

ZiggysFryBoy

Hi Harrison.  I never did get your last message too me....Rocky beat me to it.  Care to repeat it?  I hope you had a nice "vacation."  BTW, your buddy JD says hi.

Because it's a road game and their guards aren't stiffs.

Georgetown is favored by 9 1/2. Seems like a lot, but the Hoyas are tall and tough.

SoCalwarrior

I'll admit that I'm expecting a loss, but 91/2?  No way.  Take MU and the points.

rocky_warrior

You folks apparently need some of what I've been smoking, their guards pretty much are stiffs, and we're gonna, well, smoke 'em tomorrow  ;D

Barro will put on a running clinic for their bigs.. and just been looking through their box scores to figure out my pics and they haven't really played anyone recently.. trying to find good games to use as benchmarks and the only ones I could find in recent memory was pitt and villanova.. which they LOST.  tried to use ND and Louisville games as balancing games but that is tough to do seriously knowing that those teams seem to lay eggs more than they put together a good game (no disrespect intended for any of the mentioned teams - consistency can be tough to reach as our team has even discovered).  Further, their much touted bigs have yielded relatively few rebounds per game (last game or two not withstanding and those were against, well, rather questionable teams anyhow).  I don't buy the "much fewer opportunities" argument really because, while their FG% has been relatively nice it hasn't been THAT much higher than average - still plenty of rebounding opportunities there; and then they're touted as defensively strong and holding their opponents to abysmally low shooting percentages (which should yield more rebounds too).

Soo.. yeah. I think we win the pace battle and the rebounding front and so we win the game.
