Georgetown
« on: December 19, 2009, 07:32:59 PM »
Georgetown down by 18 to Old Dominion with 12 to go in the game. Georgetown's has a significant height/beef advantage but ODU is killing them with ball movement, threes, and opportunistic defense/turnovers. Sounds like a recipe for MU.

Georgetown goes on a big run and gets it down to two points with less than a minute. ODU ball, 21 seconds, 4 point lead. Great game.

GU loses to ODU at home, 61-57. Their bigs concern me but speed may neutralize that factor

I don't care, I would take G town anyday over OD or MU this season.

Talk about a home court advantage...it was crazy there.  And they lost.

You're right. This wasn't at the Verizon, it was at McDonough where the kids are right on top of the action. Having said which, Georgetown's student body has a much higher pencil neck geek quotient than MU. Did you see some of the goobers in the crowd? Anyhow, there was nothing like the Arena for home court advantage. One of the truly great snake pits and Al played it like a cheap violin.

ODU had some serious gunners in that game.  They had to shoot > 60% from the 3pt arc.  And GTown played real sloppy, a lot of turnovers.  Also, very idiotically, they did not pound the ball into Monroe at all either.  Basically, ODU provided the blueprint for beating them.  Force the action away from Monroe, force a few turnovers, and hit 3s.

ODU shot 7 of 16 from 3 point range, or 43.8%.  Good shooting to be sure, but not >60%.

Interestingly, ODU got to the line just 5 times (and made 2).  Georgetown was 13 of 22 from the line.

ODU used a lot of paint touches to open up their 3 point game. GU made a lot of boneheaded turnovers, too.
