Just announced......he IS returning for his 17th season!

augoman

If, in fact, it's true it gives me a reason to watch pro football for another year in spite of the Terrible Owenses.  Great news!

NavinRJohnson

Did anyone really doubt he would? Guess what, unless he gets hurt or something, 17 will not be his last season either.

AlumKCof93

Is he unsure if this will be his last or will we continue to have to hear about him retiring?  This story was old last year.

Now all I need is a MU win tommorow, a Bears loss on Sunday, and my weekend will be a good one.

Yawn............................

At least he made his decision quickly this year instead of that joke he pulled last year when he dragged everything out.

CWSKeith

Nice, two days before the Super Bowl.

Brett Farve don't need no stinkin' attention!

Dish

Yes! I was waiting for this exciting news!!!! This made my day!!!!

(Please note the HEAVY sarcasm.)

mosarsour

At least me made his decision earlier this year. Whether or not it's before or after the Super Borl doesn't really matter to me.  I'm just glad we didn't have to wait until April again.

HoopDreams

Best quarterback ever..I think so. Great to have him back for another season. Favre 4ever.

I'm sure Brett looks forward to leading the Packers to another quality 8-8 season.

As long as 6 of those 8 wins are against in-division opponents I'll take it  ;D

Living in Illinois and surrounded by Bears fans this announcement has made my weekend regardless of the Superbowl outcome.  A Marquette win tomorrow will add to this sweet-sweet feeling I have right now.

Why is everyone so pumped for him to come back? He'll be 38 in October, he's obviously not as good as he was 5 years ago. His team is mediocre and set up for being mediocre for years to come. The worst thing you can be in sports is a .500 team, and the Packers were there this year, and with him coming back, will be there next year.

Or you could look at it as they improved 4 games last year and have better personnel than they started with last year.

Either way, Favre will always be fun to watch.

Wow, yes Favre will be 38, and I am guessing you are a Bears fan, and whats funny is right now you WISH you had a 38 year old Favre instead of whatever age Grossman is.  The fact of the matter is, Favre is the leader, the team this year should have been 3-13, with Favre they become 8-8, and not due to just talent, he makes everyone around him better (Driver is a perfect example, 7th round pick, to Pro-Bowl status).  With some more rookies and the youth becoming older and more experienced, they have a legitimate shot at the playoffs, lets face it its the NFC,9-7 makes it.  So what if we were 8-8 and got a lousy draft pick compared to if we went 4-12 again, the Packers need EVERYTHING, they can take the Best Available Player, which usually turns out to be a stud instead of needing a player.  Your answer is just a non-Packer fan going "crap, I have to deal with Favre's ability again", Best QB ever, period.  No player goes out with more enthusiasm, determination and drive to win the game, he is truely a warrior on the field, and it's hard for me to see why you would hate him without having to go through a decade of him wiping the field with your favorite team.

I wonder if he'll come back for the 2008-2009 season!?!?

(is it too early to start asking?)

Avenue Commons

Yawn. Favre was (is) a great quarterback, but who cares?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE CHICAGO BEARS ARE IN THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We Are Marquette

Dish

Why in the heck would I, as a Bears fan, want a 38 year old Brett Favre? Would I have wanted him at 29? Darn right! I have no shame in saying he is the best QB I have ever seen. (Grossman is 26 by the way.) The fact is, the Packers went 8-8 against a brutal schedule. Have you seen next year's Packers schedule? Good luck getting to 8-8 next season with that team. By your logic, every other team will also imporve in the NFC as well.

Favre may be the best qb ever, but did I mention he's going to be 38??

For fun, take a look at these stats, and tell me who you would rather have next year?

QB #1
Had QB ratings of 70.0 or below in 9 of his 16 games this season. (70.0 is considered an "average" game)

QB#2
Had QB rating of 70.0 or below in 6 of his 16 games.

QB #1
In games vs playoff opponents, he threw 6 TD's, 11 Int's.

QB#2
In games vs playoff opponents, he threw 6 TD's, 4 Int's.

Who would you rather have? I'll give you a hint, QB#2 is Rex Grossman.

Sir Lawrence

#20
Dish, where are you getting your stats?  Favre, lifetime in playoff games, has thrown 34 TD's and 26 INT's.  He didn't have any "playoff" opponents this year, or am I misunderstanding you?  Do you mean in games against teams that made it to the playoffs?
Ludum habemus.

MU Chi_IL

As a Bears fan I could not be happier, another year to knock him around after everything he has done to us is ok with me.  The man has single handedly crushed me more times then I can remember!

Dish

Yes, in games played this past season against teams that made the playoffs.

Packers fans seem to be living off Favre's history. The fact is he isn't 27 years old anymore. The guy had an average season by NFL standards. His team imporved to 8-8 this last year? Big deal, being .500 is the WORST thing you can be in sports.

If you're a Packers fan, it'd probably be in your best interest to let Favre ride off into the sunset and let your team stink for a year and get back into the upper echelon. Being 8-8, 9-7 in the NFC means zippo.

If you're a Favre fan, well then this must be a great day.

muwarrior87

After each season, he feels the strain of another year on him...but then he realizes he can still play physically and doesn't know what he'd do w/o the game, so he'll probably do this a few more years or until he gets a serious injury, hopefully the first and not the second of those two options...and why do you Chicago ppl even post on this if you're so sarcastic and just think it's to pull attn away from your precious Bears that will probably lose Sunday...even w/ Payton's lack of ability to finish out clutch games.  8)

Sir Lawrence

The problem is that even if we concede that Favre is now just a mediocore QB, he's the best option GB has.  Rodgers doesn't inspire anyone.  So what do they do?  Either let Favre play another year, or draft or acquire another QB, and I don't see anyone out there right now that would make me want to dump Favre.

Go Marquette.
Ludum habemus.
