They mentioned a few times during his game last night on espn2 that MU is interested in Jeff, but hasn't offered.  I would rather MJ's son on the team just for the press coverage even if there is another player that is better to fill the end of the bench.

MarquetteVol

Unless he comes as a walk-on, he's not going to be at MU. We're already one scholarship over for 2007. Plus, I don't think Jeff's a high-major talent. Marcus, on the other hand, is someone to keep an eye on.

Avenue Commons

It could be quite a distraction in many ways. I know that Jeff Jordan is playing in the Jordan All-Star game, but I think that may have more to do with knowing someone than his skills. Maybe the kid walks on or does a year as a red-shirt walk on and then gets a scholly. I don't think that a scholly is a big deal. I'm not sure, but his family must have some money if he goes to Loyola Academy, which isn't cheap.

A meddlesome MJ hanging around the program? No thanks. The publicity is no way worth the conflict/distraction I have no doubt he would cause. Does anyone relish the prospect of MJ potentially being upset about his son filling the end of the bench as you put it? We are going too good right now, to have MJ trying to make MU BBall all about MJ - as he has to do in just about everyting he gets involved in.

Yeah, I'm sure the MJ can spring for tuition at Loyola. I would bet Jeff ends up playing college ball at Loyola. It'll be interesting where Marcus ends up going to school. He could follow dad's footsteps and head to Chapel Hill. It sounds like despite pretty cushy upbringings, both kids have tremendous work ethics and really enjoy playing the game.

Djgoldnboy

Yeah, I would think so...did any catch the halftime of the Jordan's/Gordon game last night?  They did a walkthrough of MJ's house with Jeff I think it was...pretty impressive indoor basketball gym he has there...WOW.

MUFan07

I don't know how much interest Marquette has in Jordan, but the announcers kept mentioning his teammate Rob Belcore who is a junior.  They were saying that he's getting interest from Marquette and Notre Dame.

Is that who made SportsCenter top 10 this morning?  I know it was one of Jordon's teammates.

Ya think?

I was being sarcastic. Walking onto a bigger program is a good plan for Jeff Jordan. I know Loyola-Chicago is interested, but that's about as good of a program as he's being recruited for as far as I know.

I don't think a bored MJ living 45 minutes away in Highland Park is a good thing for the Marquette program. I don't know how he is with Loyola Academy, but he is way too Type A personality to sit by idly while his kid is sitting on the bench.

Then again, who knows. Jordan's getting divorced and the stories of what he has been up to are running rampant in Chicago. He might be "distracted."

I dont know what those stories are but I doubt he would hang around much if at all.  I just don't see Jordan as the great dad sacrificing his time to watch his son's game in person.

I'm pretty sure the Sportscenter highlight was an alley-oop from Jeff to Marcus Jordan.  Belcore seemed to be their main outside threat.

We might be talking about different plays because this wasn't an alley-oop and they said it wasn't Jordon't kid.

As a Loyola Grad who has a few friends who are teachers there now, I catch a few games a year and I hear a lot of stories.  With that said a lot of buzz around Jeff Jordan going to Loyola U.  Loyola Academy plays there a few times a year (against St. Ignatius and New Trier this year), as well as holds the high school graduation on the campus.  I believe that would be a very good fit for him competition wise, it is a program coming out of years of slumber (1988 since they even were mentioned nationally).  The coach at Loyola U is doing a nice job of building a regional program that will get some second tier Chicago Kids and a few other midwestern kids to fill the holes.  I think they will be at the top of the horizon league for years  to come, but I think that is where the ceiling is for that program.

As far as Mike getting in the way, I can tell you that is not the case at Loyola.  He usually comes a few mins late to the game so not to disrupt anything and leaves a few mins early (unless it is close).  He is very much just a dad.  I have heard conflicting stories that he puts his two cents in behind the scenes, but I have also heard that he gives his kids/the coach space.  I don't think Jeff would be a fit for MU, Marcus is another story.

The stories have to do with some of MJ's "extracurricular" activities with some of the young ladies who reside in the Windy City.

From what I've heard he goes to all of the LA games to watch his sons.

This is the thing that concerns me. If that is in fact the case with his HS, I have no doubt the coach would buckle under in a second. Just as I equally don't doubt Tom Crean would not. I just don't trust the guy. I simply haven't seen many relationships of his end very well, and I'd prefer he not get anywhere my favorite basketball program. Wade's son will be ready for college before you know it. I can wait.

I'm not really sold on this whole Marcus Jordan thing.  I also am an alum Loyola and from what I've seen of Marcus is that he is a good high school player.  I know he is only a Sophmore, but he isn't even starting.  All you here is how he is going to be such a better player than Jeff.  Maybe I'm missing something, but I think Jeff is a pretty good player, probably best suited for Mid-Major ball.  Last I heard he was seriously considering George Washington( I heard Georgetown is also on that list).  Anyways, it will be interesting to see what becomes of Marcus, but I still think he is a long way from getting serious playing time at a major program.  Who knows though with that athleticism and build at a sophmore, the sky is the limit.

MilTown

I haven't seen Loyola play in person this year, but I have watched 2 games on TV and would say that the Jordan's are nice high school players, but at this point do not have the type of talent to play significant minutes in the big east. Crean is a pretty solid judge of talent, and I highly doubt that he would pursue either Jordan. Now, on the other hand, the master marketer and program builder side of Crean, would possibly show some interest in Jordan, or talk about it just to get some exposure for MU. I think that is the case here.

I guess in the end, if Jeff Jordan wanted to come to MU and walk on, more power to him. With another year of development on his game, you never know. I don't buy into the whole MJ meddling in our program arguement. If you have followed his kids, you will see that Jordan attends games just like any other parent and nothing more. He really tries to stay out of the way. Also, if you recall, Jordan actually has a day job these days that should keep him somewhat busy.

Marcus Jordan has arrived

He's the best sophomore prospect in the state...

Most scouting services have Jordan ranked anywhere from #1 to #5. He's usually right in the mix with D.J. Richardson (Peoria Central), Michael Haynes (Washington), Xavier Humphrey (Fenwick), Chris Colvin (Young), Darius Smith (Marshall) and D'Mitri Riggs (Bloomington).

Haynes was very impressive when I saw him this season, he's much improved. Right now, Smith is the best sophomore high school player. He fills up a stat sheet and has proven his worth in high pressure games.

However, nobody else on that list has the athleticism, strength, speed and explosiveness that Jordan demonstrated last night against Hales. I'm not sure if it translated on the television, but he is a force. Everyone knew he was driving to the basket and no one could stop him. That's very rare to see with a sophomore.

I showed up early last night to catch the sophomore game. Loyola's highly-touted freshmen, Robbie Wennington and Chance Carter, are very talented players. But Hales freshman Brandon Spearman was the best player on the court. He could be a special one.

Marcus is a 6'3" soph that has a lot of basketball learning in front of him, if he can turn his athletic gift into Bball skills in the next two years he is going to be a very solid prospect (don't forget his has a few people around him that know the game).

From what I hear Robbie Wennington (Bill Wennington son) is going to be someone to keep tabs on.

Coem to think of it, Shaq has a son too, doesn't he? I gotta believe we'd have a great shot at him. ;D

If I recall correctly, MJ didn't even make his HS team as a soph.  Maybe Marcus will be another late bloomer.

Our very own Wade didn't get very much playing time as a high school sophomore either.. just read his muscoop wiki entry...

People always say that Jordan didn't make his high school team as a sophmore. Well, that is not exactly correct. Jordan didn't make the VARSITY, but he made the JV team.

Marcus Jordan has the ability to get better, but we don't know if he will. He may work at it, or he may go another direction. We don't know. Until then, we can only look at his game right now and right now it is a work in progress.
