I have absolutely no personal knowledge of whether or not he gave the money, and I'm not wililng to assume anything one way or the other.  Does your use of a question mark at the end of your sentence mean that you don't know either?  Does anyone on hear know for sure one way or another?  Lots of projects fall behind schedule or don't get done at all.  Unless someone knows something concrete, I'm not willing to speculate that Crean stiffed MU and that is the reason that the project wasn't completed on time.

Crean's money was peanuts compared to the total cost.  If he failed to make good on his donation, it would in no way have stalled or stopped it.  Klein committed the big money.  I have no idea, however, where the project is at.

I never meant for Crean to be a scapegoat for why it wasn't done on time and still isn't done (to my knowledge).  I did a little research. I think he did pony up his promised $$ (to the tune of 100K), so who knows.  I guess it isn't surprising that a soccer project wasn't a priority, especially with the economy as poor as it is.  They had an initial donation of $1 million, and needed approximately 5 million total.  Hope it's constructed eventually!

There wasn't a presser or a Wade name-dropping concerning Crean paying up. So, assume it didn't happen. Maybe he's negotiating for IU to pay it as part of his buyout. Don't hold your breath on actually seeing the Benjamins.

This is why you never, ever, EVER announce fund-raising campaigns for projects like this unless you can be 100% sure that it will be successful.  Open by fall of 2008???  Please.
