Reaction to # 25 Indiana rushing the floor after beating #2 Wisconsin is...

Come on Indiana, it was a game in the middle of the season, WI was only #2, and this doesn't secure you a conference championship; act like you've been here before.
37 (74%)
totally justified, they just beat the #2 team country and boosted their March stock by beating a solid team.
13 (26%)

When to rush the floor?

chapman

I guess it's ok, but it's not like they only had a 1% chance of winning.  Still not half as pathetic as WVU rushing the court last year against Pitt when they were ranked higher than Pitt and favored to win.

I loved the rushing of the court, its the spirit of college basketball, if you can't rush the floor when you beat a top 5 team, when can you, shows student spirit, love every second of it, no matter whether it was Wisconsin losing or not.

You can't tell these students now that they can't rush the floor because back in the 80's Indiana was the team to beat, yes Indiana is rich in basketball history, but its been awhile since they have been REALLY GOOD (even when they made it to the NCAA Championship, they were a 6 seed).  Your telling me that if Marquette was #25, and beat #2 Wisconsin, Marquette wouldn't rush the floor???

Not to mention you just beat the team with the longest win streak in Basketball right now.

I agree on not rushing the floor...Unfortunately Mike Davis caused most IU fans and definitely all the students to forget that until recently Wisconsin had not beaten IU in 30 years

Big Papi

They just beat the number two team in the country so I don't mind if the students rush the court.  Let them have there fun.

Indiana was favored. You don't rush when you are favored.

You know what I miss. "The Highlife Man." I don't say I love many ads but those were awesome guy advertising.

My favorite one was where you see the guy pan-frying a greasy burger in his kitchen.

VO YOU CAN'T GIVE THE FRENCH CREDIT FOR MUCH.

He takes the dripping burger out and drops it on a piece of white bread.

VO WE HAD TO BAIL THEM OUT OF TWO BIG ONES.

Then he takes a huge dollup of mayo and slaps it on his burger.

VO BUT THEY DID INVENT MAYONIASE. HERE'S TO YOU PIERRE. LIVING THE HIGH LIFE.

By the way, how much beer did that "Dick" campaign a few years back sell?

IAmMarquette

Rushing the court/field should be reserved for championships and championships alone (conference or greater). Go ahead and enjoy a W over a rival or a highly-ranked opponent, but let's not get carried away. Example: the aformentioned rushing of the floor by WVU after beating the lower-ranked PITT. Give me a break.

mu_hilltopper

So .. when we clinched the CUSA title in 02-03, should we have rushed the floor?

And how about (fingers crossed) if we beat Pitt and clinch the BE title.  Rush or no rush?

NateDoggMarq

Do whatever comes natural I dont care about this stupid arguement

DoubleMU0609

I think that rushing after a Pitt victory to clinch the BE title would be an acceptable time to rush the floor.  Celebrating both the victory (less so) and the Title.

02-03 was my freshman year.  I know that the student section rushed at least once (I didn't b/c I was in the band) but I don't remember which games it was.  If the '03 clincher was against a team like Tulane then no, I don't think rushing is appropriate.  If it was against Cincy or L'ville then yes, go for it.

It was against Cinci, I didn't rush, because I was still in high school then   :)

Before my time. But put it this way, before Dick Miller Lite was the number 1 Lite beer coming off of the Taste Great Less Filling craze.

It almost killed the brand.

We're not allowed to rush the floor, so deciding whether we should in certain situations is kind of a non issue. If you've noticed in the recent past, particularly when we played G'town and Pitt at the end of the season and won both games, they set up these huge metal barriers and had arena security stand by them so that we wouldn't do anything. Thats also why the players come to the student section after a big win, because we can't go to them.

While I do not know exactly why, I think it has to do with the fact that the BC is not our own facility and with the press tables right in front of us, we would more than likely break stuff if we did rush.

I know that we were able to in 2003 when we won the CUSA championship, so I guess we can only do it in special situations.
"Marquette is bigger than any one person. Marquette is Marquette."

spartan3186

We are not allowed to rush the floor because of the BC's insurance. They would be  liable if anyone got injured since it is their property and not ours. It came into play when we beat UCONN last year and a few people tried to rush the court and proceeded to get hauled off to the county jail for trespassing. However, I have been informed by a Bradley Center employee whom I work with when he is not at the BC that if a big group of people where to rush there is no way they could stop us nor haul everyone off to jail. Moral of the story: if the students want to rush the court we all have to do it at the same time, not just a couple of brave souls

MUDPT

It actually started in '02 with Cincy.  The whole section in front of 106 practically got trampled including Joani Crean.  That was a scary situation that day and I was in 224.  The barriers went up after that.  I remember 2 weeks later we beat Louisville and Joe Chapman wanted to storm the floor in his Bloom High School warm up.

spiral97

as for rushing at the end of the upcoming pitt game.. I have a feeling we'll all be collapsing in our seats in too much relief and exhaustion after a tough game to even bother rushing the court..  while we'll win IMHO, it'll be a very hard and closely fought game.
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.

Back to Indiana, they can't have it both ways.  They still consider themselves an elite program and feel they should attract the top coaches and top recuits.  An "elite" program would not rush the court after beating the #2 team in a game where they're favored that doesn't decide a championship.  Rush if you want, but then get off the high horse.
