Things I love (In response to the Things I hate articles)
« on: January 31, 2007, 04:42:12 PM »
Heres the top 10 things I love, with some honorable mentions

1.  MU victories ( and MU basketball in general )
2.  Women/Lady-Types ( the cute fun ones, not the mad bitchy ones - mark those into the things I hate category )
3.  March Madness ( lets face it, this is the best time of the year, not Super Bowl Sunday, not Christmas )
4.  Milwaukee Brewers
5.  Green Bay Packers
6.  Keller Williams (a musician for those of you who don't know)
7.  Brett Favre ( He has been the QB of the team ever since I can remember, it has been a great Packer life I have had )
8.  Travis Diener
9.  Gonzaga Bulldogs ( Back in the Casey Calvary/Dan Dickau days I loved them, and Adam Morrison deserved POY last year )
10.  Disc Golfing

Honorable Mention:

Jam Bands in General, Warm Sunny Days Aaron Hutchins and Anthony Pieper (reason why I started to like MU basketball over UW basketball), Summerfest, IPODs, Sailing, Easy Exams, Girls in Bikinis(go back to rule #2), Bars, Rum and Cokes, Poker, Foosball, Happy Hour, Intramural Sports (and winning them), Samuel Eto'o, Italian National Soccer Team (Italian, always have liked them, not just because they won it this year, although that was pretty sweet!), Van Persie, Daily Show, Colbert Report, Bill Hall (for he looks like Don Cheadle and was the most underrated player in MLB last year), hookah

more to come

- Paul Westerberg/Replacements
- Elvis
- My wife and kids
- Italians (as many people who know me can attest, I would trade in my Irish for Italian in a second.)
- Chicken Vessuvio
- Sitting on my deck
- Going out to dinner
- Seinfeld

- The Godfather
- The Godfather II
- Having the house to myself watching an MU game (or Packer or Brewer game - depends on th season), eating ribs.

- A clean house
- Guitars

There are others. but that's enough for now.

Hmm... Love something so you can whoop up on it?  Intersting theory.

Does this mean that the "Things I Hate" thread and the "Things I Love" thread are actually the same thing?  I feel a rip forming in the space/time continuum...

Kopps custard

Good call.  (mint chip, grasshopper fudge, and mr. fudgie)

I used a online personality test that told you your favorite ice cream flavor (mint obviously) to convince my would-be girl friend that we were perfect for each other.  Year and a half later we still get out to Kopps for mint chip as often as we can.

Very nice...

My girl (who's never been to WI) and I are from CA...for valentine's day two years ago, she got me a Kopps Custard 10-pint pack....WHOOOOOOOWEEEEEEEE! Love that girl!

But it wasn't the same (didn't tell her that though).

Living in CA and being away from Kopps custard is perfectly defined by "absence makes the heart grow fonder."

1.  My wife
2.  My family

... OK, she's gone.  Here are 10 other things I really love, in no particular order

1.  Marquette Hoops
2.  A-Rod batting in a big spot against the Sox
3.  Watching David Ortiz or Manny Ramirez hit (for all you Red Sox Yankee haters, one thing you need to know is that baseball is the top sport in NY, MA and CT.  Bigger than football.  Not sure if it is anywhere else)
4.  When a lesser kid I'm coaching in baseball or basketball does something really good
5. The Simpsons (thru around season 12 or so)
6.  Cherry Coke and a good bagel (breakfast of champions)
7.  A "one-pot" dinner from my wife
8.  A night with no meetings, no coaching, nothing needed to be done (I'm actually working now from home on a boring conf call with Japan)
9.  Christmas, and last but not least...
10.  The idea that Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz might be more than just "friends"

A friend of mine once told me a quote that I've kept in mind ever since.  "Life is all about simple joys and baby steps".

Therefore, some simple joys in no particular order (except the first)

Mrs. Henry Sugar and Little Henry

MU Basketball
Being ranked
The History of MU montage before the games - it gets a little dusty in the BC
Looking into the corners on big games and seeing the student section filled with gold.
The big heads
Running into random people at the BC and at the bars afterwards
We start three sophomores, a junior, and a freshman!
Tivo'ing a game and watching it over again (only when we win, of course)

The Internet
MU Message Boards
Priceline.com and a $40 room at the Hyatt for the Pitt game
iTunes and "The Circuit" podcasts
desipio.com and goatriders.org
Online Poker

Food
Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
A cool red center steak
Kefir

Sports
A day game at Wrigley that ends with the "W" flag
Reading FC (How about that, EPL fans?)
Chicago Fire and sitting with Section 8 - man I wish we could get that sort of atmosphere for MU games
Seeing Carlos Zambrano pitch
Taking a vacation day for the start of March Madness - it's like Christmas!
The feeling after a good, tiring run or set of squats
Nike + iTunes

Misc
Places without open container restrictions
Collecting Quotes
Putting up Christmas lights and decorations
Offering a sign of peace at mass
A warrior is an empowered and compassionate protector of others.

Really in no order, but I'll keep it short...
-Marquette basketball
-the time between November and early April(its like one long holiday)
-playing guitar
-jam bands...Grateful Dead(Ratdog, The Other Ones, The Dead, etc.) , The Allman Brothers, Derek Trucks, String Cheese Incident (and I did see Keller Williams at summerfest...opened for ratdog and string cheese....while i'm not a fan of his cd stuff he is good live. it was cool seeing how he plays all the instruments and puts the songs together)
-music in general, Zeppelin, Clapton, almost any blues/rock/classic rock stuff
-seeing the badgers lose(i can hate them and like them at the same time right? just different reasons)
-Real Chili..and I didn't read all the posts...but was there a Real Chili somewhere? cause to see that off of some people's lists...well thats just pure insanity
-i hate sarcasm...i really can't stand it at all, i don't get it and i don't know how to use it.
-cannoli...which leads into the Godfather I and II(3 wasn't horrible, but what the hell was Sophia Copola doing in that movie...it wasn't acting and having sex with your cousin is not cool unless you're from WV or Kentucky)
-Being a student at Marquette
-proudly calling my school the Marquette Warriors with no hesitation...the way it should be

I sure as heck am not a kid.  (I actually could run for President and honestly say I never took a puff of anything.  Had a beer or 20 from time to time, though)  A one-pot is when my wife just throws a whole bunch of stuff she finds in the kitchen in a pot and makes a stew.  Never the same twice and always delicious.
