Last year's T-shirts, "Notre Dame is French for Our Bitch" were classic.  Right up there with "Ann Arbor is a Whore."  :D

You have to be kidding? I'm not offended anything but calling the Mary, the Mother of God, a bitch is absolutely intolerable.  Marquette is a Catholic school and should be hold it's student to a standard corresponds with the values it teaches.  The student who wears such shirts should have been told to take off the shirts or be kicked out of BC. I can't believe that any Marquette fan would think this is classic.  It's shameful and disturbing.

I probably don't want to re-start this debate, but please keep in mind that many Catholics, including myself, find this t-shirt very, very offensive.  Ann Arbor is not a person -- at least as far as I know.  "Notre Dame" (actual translation:  "Our Lady") is an real person that a lot of people don't really like to hear referred to in that way.

I know, I know.  I should lighten up, it's only a basketball game, etc.  I'm just saying...

Just remember, the shirt is aimed at the school (which happens to be named Notre Dame), their students, and the fact that we've pretty much owned them the last five years, not at "Our Lady."

Whether shirt is aimed at a school or not is absolute irrelevant to what it says other than the fact that some troglodyte uses that argument justify wearing such a heinously disrespectful shirt.

that t-shirt idea was actually mine, i had them printed up when i was a junior during the 2003/2004 season.  thank god we won that one at home.  there should be around 230 floating out there.

Yes, some people took offense to that and i did get some slaps on the hand.  mainly because i was working at the McCormick hall front desk at the time.  there would be a longer line to buy t-shirts than there would be to get into the dorm.  i see where some people get confused behind the meaning, but nothing is intended towards Mary the mother of Jesus.  instead it is directed towards the university.  the Jesuits found no humor in it, same as some people on this board, and they took it to the res hall directors since they heard them being sold in the dorms.  I got suspended from work, but it really didn't matter to me because i made enough off the t-shirts to more than cover what i would have made working in the dorms.

i will be doing another printing of them since many of my friends have sold their's off their back (literally) after games.  i was going to wait till next year when we play them again at home (hopefully) but if i get enough interest i can do an early run of them.

now let the debate continue over how not funny those shirts are and how big of an ass i am for making them.

If you were really the creator of those shirts you ought to be embarrassed.

I can understand and appreciate why you find them offensive.  Personally, I never saw it that way.  I took it to mean Notre Dame's basketball team is Marquette's basketball team's bitch.  The whole French translation of Notre Dame actually being close to that is why I (and many others) found the shirts funny.

mu03eng

I was going to post the same thing.  Now I attribute my not getting it being offensive to not being catholic and being slow.  In the end IMHO I have seen far worse at other non-marquette games.  Again I guess its all in the eye of the beholder.

Warrior1996, you are quick to attack when people may be offended by your login name.  I am not one of those people and I am sure most people on this board are not.  But if you are going to call out others and let them know that "they ought to be embarrassed" maybe you should take a look at yourself as well because it looks like you are not always PC.

If you don't like the shirts, ignore it, no one who wears one actually things those things of Mary.  I am sure there are better uses of your time then lecturing others on a message board.  Myself, I have time to do that, so this is my mini lecture, "don't judge other people while posting under potentially offensive names."

MU GIMP - My suggestion for the new wave of shirts "The University of Notre Dame's Basketball team and affiliated fans are our Bitch"

MU gimp ONE

is it really necessary to post 3 times in a row.  yes we get it that your feelings are hurt and you are deeply offended.  to let you know, i am not embarrassed at all, nor should i be.  apparently puns (or play on words) are not as funny to some.  if you are not a fan of the shirt, then so be it, others are.  personally, i find the shirts with the middle finger sticking up to be more offensive.  little kids don't read every shirt, but they sure look at most pictures.  in my opinion the middle finger shirt for both notre dame and cincy are offensive, but do i criticize the people that made them or wear them... no, because that's their choice.  warrior1996, while i respect your right to give your opinion, i do not have to agree with it and neither does everyone on this board.  please stop making multiple posts trying to lobby everyone to your side of the debate.  some people hate the shirt, some people love the shirt.

how bout we refocus on the main reason we go to the Bradley center, namely the team.  we have a big game coming up and all people can sound off about is a t-shirt.  good thing someone started the "i love thread" so that people can get off the negative train.  we have always said on here that people have the right to have whatever view they want of a topic, this one isn't any different.  truth is, you can't read too much into shirts.

If you are not offended, why would cheer for a Catholic school?   You do know that Marquette is a Catholic School, don't you?  Comparing the term Warrior to the word Bitch is so strikingly pathetic, I'd be surprised if you ever set foot on the Marquette campus.  I could care less if people are "bothered" by the T-shirt.  The fact is that such a T-shirt has absolutely no place at a Jesuit Catholic institution such as Marquette.  I would expect such behavior from the knuckle dragging mouth breathers at Wisconsin or UWM.

For fear of making this thread even longer.   You do realize that a number of Marquette students and alumni are not Catholic correct?

I know...some of us are heathens that eat meat on Fridays during Lent (and enjoy it), but it doesn't mean we didn't appreciate our Marquette education or root for Marquette in sports.

The fact that you are calling all non-Catholics "knuckle dragging mouth breathers" shows your ignorance.  And yes, I'm smart enough to be offended by that.

Now, please keep personal insults off the board, and we can all get along. This thread was about hating Notre Dame, not hating each other.

Then again, with Notre Dame being Catholic, I guess it would be hard for you to hate them.

I'm Catholic, I hate Notre Dame University and it's athletic teams, (not "Our Mother") and I really, really want this thread to please end--it's about MU basketball, not offending anyone's sensibilities.  Now let's kick some "Friar" arse on Saturday!

Didn't you start it?  ;D

A few more things too on the hate list.

Ugly Betty
back aches
AT&T
The Oscars
Turkey bacon.

Sir Lawrence

OK, I hate Turkey bacon too.   And I only wanted the thread to be about hating the arrogance that is ND.  Your list, however, is quite impressive.

Done!  It's locked. We've had enough hate for two days   :-*
(even though I'm sure ZFB could keep his list going on forever)
