If I were Vander and I read the leaks from the meeting which clearly suggest that I'm a bad (and lazy) student, I would look elsewhere.

Screw the message board comments.  We all know that people who post on message boards are nutjobs.  What's really disturbing here is that someone at that meeting leaked information that should have been private, and did so in a way that was really unflattering.

How do you know someone from that meeting leaked information?------sounds to me more like Schultz tried to connect the misinformation dots from multiple secondary sources to present a story?

Looks like the only outcome of the meeting was that Blue has to go to summer school.

Looks like the only outcome of the meeting was that Blue has to go to summer school.

Schultz's first story on this (http://www.badgerbeat.com/news/article/id/451052) clearly implied that he was getting information from a source in attendance at the meeting.  Not only did they identify all the people at the meeting, the source reported on Blue's body language and demeanor at the meeting.  It's impossible to read the initial article and not come to the conclusion that somebody at the meeting was providing information (either to Schultz directly or to someone who was passing it along).  Clearly, unless someone was just making things up -- always a possibility -- this information was coming from someone who attended the meeting.  And, the reports were not flattering to Blue.

It's also interesting that the "initial" article has been changed so that it isn't so unflattering.  On Wednesday, Schult'z story read:

"But Blue wasn't thrilled to hear about all the work he needed to do to become academically eligible to play at Wisconsin. "He kind of melted into the table," said the source. "He got the sulky, head-down, won't-make-eye-contact look."

Now it reads:

"But Blue wasn't thrilled to hear about all the work he needed to do to become academically eligible to play at UW. At one point in the meeting Blue kept his head down and appeared frustrated."

So, we've changed from melting into the table, sulky and not making eye-contact to merely frustrated.  So, what changed?  Did the source change his story?  Or perhaps somebody realized that they had leaked and/or printed information that cast a great rectruit in an unflattering light.

Nice. So he changes the article without even mentioning it on the website. Really professional journalism, Schultz.

I can't even find the first article linked to the Cap Times anymore....did they remove it completely?

It's not linked to the other articles and it's not in the archives, but I found it.  I have no idea if the article has been altered since it was originally written so take this for what it's worth.

EDIT: I probably misinterpreted what you were asking for.  I linked the first of the chain of three total articles.  Anyways, the post below me is most likely what you wanted.

http://www.badgerbeat.com/blog/blog/id/450884

"Multiple sources close to the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team told me Tuesday night that Vander Blue has not contacted any of the coaches to tell them he is backing out of his oral commitment to play for the Badgers.

This follows Blue mentioning on his Facebook page that he has made a ``big decision'' about his recruiting. The junior guard for Madison Memorial didn't get specific.

Sources told me that the UW coaches were alerted to Blue's comments on his Facebook page but were unable to ascertain what they meant because he hasn't talked to them. This is a quiet period for recruiting so communication between coaches and recruits is supposed to be very limited.

This also isn't the first time that signals were sent out by the Blue camp or people and teammates close to Blue that he was re-thinking his decision to play for the Badgers.

I called Blue's cell phone several times Tuesday and received a message each time that he is not accepting calls. I received the same message when I called the cell phone of Memorial coach Steve Collins."

I got the quote I put above from another post.  But then I went and got the original article from the google cache.  If you google some key words from the first article (e.g., badger schultz blue meeting sulky) you will get a link the the cache (link: in case someone cares enough to make a screen cap).  I cut/pasted both articles and compared them (using software that does that).  There were quite a few changes, but most were stylistic improvements.

The substantive changes generally brought the tone down a little so the article wasn't so unflattering toward Blue.  Basically, all of the "substantive" changes were in the same section of the article (including the quote I put above).  The entire section was changed from (with sloppy attempt to highlight what was removed and what was added):

"It was, 'Here's our plan. Here's what we need you to do to make sure you qualify,'" a source said. "It was about all the options for him at Memorial. Everyone was there so he knew from Wisconsin's end what would be accepted and, from Memorial, what options were available; whether it be summer school and the plan for next fall and next spring.

"It was a normal game plan you go through with everybody," the source added. "But you go into more detail with those you are concerned about."

The source said everyone at the meeting spoke confidently about Blue's potential as a student. "There was no brow-beating. It was, 'All right, this is where we're at. We can't control the past but we can control the present and the future,'" the source added.

But Blue wasn't thrilled to hear about all the work he needed to do to become academically eligible to play at Wisconsin. "He kind of melted into the table," said the source. "He got the sulky, head-down, won't-make-eye-contact look."

I have no idea what's up with Blue, and I agree that this is probably just a big internet circle jerk (was that the term).  I'll believe that he's leaving UW when he announces it.  But, it always bothers me when I read an article and I know that it has been changed from the last time I read it.  It just makes me curious about what changes were made...and why.  It seems to me that this article might have been changed because it made Blue look bad, and also made it look like someone from UW was the source of the unflattering information.  If you have concern about losing a recruit, it seems like that's not a very good plan.

According to this Minnesota, MU and Louisville are under the impression that he has backed off of his commitment.

Either this guy is making things up or Blue is indeed looking around again.

I am pretty sure he is just going off what was posted on the Rivals and Scout websites...without any confirmation.

There is nothing of subtance out there...until Blue comes out and makes a statement either way.
