MUTV Sports has learned that Liam McMorrow's career at Marquette is over due to medical reasons.

Liam will stay in school, to pursue his Broadcasting degree. This obviously answers lingering questions about his availabilty to play next year, and the availability (or lack thereof) of scholarships for next season.

Would be nowhere without the support of the Marquette community. Can't beat the MU family.

Rooting for Lazar, Jimmy, Steve, Wes and Dwyane always. Go Buzz.

Not surprising...wishing him the best in his pursuit of a MU degree.

seems like a great guy, im really sorry for him his future looked great with us.
all the best liam

That's too bad.  I was looking forward to seeing him play.  I can't imagine many people are too surprised by this after Mbao's signing.

I'm glad he's sticking around to get his degree, and I wish him nothing but the best.

He seems like a good kid with a great attitude.  I'm glad he'll be able to finish up school.

Maybe he can stay around the team as like an assistant.  This will help him in the healing process, especially his mental state.  Best of luck to the big fella.

Medical Issues End Liam McMorrow's Athletic Career

Medical issues have ended the athletic career of redshirt sophomore Liam McMorrow of the Marquette University men's basketball team, head coach Buzz Williams announced Thursday afternoon.

I hope they allow him to still be around the team and basketball.  I couldn't imagine being so close to playing and then with no fault of your own not being able to play.  Gotta be tough for him, at least he'll get a solid education.

Gotta figure it's a heart condition, right?  I know that's been the speculation.

If he's able to bang down low every once in a while, he could still be a big attribute in practice.

wow, this sucks. I wish he had his chance to show us all his full potential on the court. Just as everyone was anxious to see him play, I am sure he was just as anxious to show us what he has.

I wish him all the luck in the future in everythign that he does.

Medical issues sideline McMorrow permanently

Liam McMorrow, a redshirt sophomore center, has been ruled unable to play for MU due to undisclosed medical issues, the school announced on Thursday.

A 7-foot, 260-pounder from Toronto, McMorrow will remain enrolled at the school and continue to pursue his bachelor's degree in broadcasting.

“We are very disappointed with the end result this has for Liam athletically, but because of the efforts and time spent over the last several weeks by all involved, we are excited that he is able to finish his academic career at Marquette,” coach Buzz Williams said in a statement released by the school.

“Liam and his family have been involved in this sensitive manner from the start and we are thankful his issue was detected when it was. We are grateful for Liam’s contribution to our program over this past year and even though he will not be able to play for us, that will not change his involvement in our program in any other way.”

McMorrow was not made available for comment.

Considering he'd played just one year of organized basketball in Canada prior to signing with MU last June 27, McMorrow was considered something of a flier -- but a worthwhile one in Williams' eyes because of his size and athletic ability.

It was hoped his redshirt season in 2008-'09 would help McMorrow advance to the point where he'd be able to contribute once he became eligible in 2009-'10. But a right-foot stress fracture suffered not long after practice opened last October ultimately led to surgery, and it wasn't until the latter part of the season he once again was able to work out with the team.

Williams then divulged in late March that McMorrow was dealing with an undisclosed medical problem unrelated to the foot injury.

With McMorrow sidelined permanently, MU can now use his athletic scholarship on 7-2, 215-pound center Youssoupha Mbao, who signed with the Golden Eagles last week.

Sad news.  Glad to hear he will be continuing his education at MU.

CAINMUTINY

That is really sad to hear; I like most MU fans was hoping that Liam's health issue would only be a momentary setback.

I hope that MU can handle situation much like Vanderbilt did with Davis Nwankwo after his heart condition ended his careers prematurely.  Liam is a well spoken young man and already has a pretty strong background in TV & film in comparison to most kids his age and hopefully will be the next big thing in broadcasting.

Ari Gold

very sad. Everyone really wanted him to have a big impact on the team. I'm glad he's sticking around and I hope that Buzz lets him sit on the bench as an assistant

While sports were a big part of his life, there is more to life than sports.  I am glad he will finish his degree at Marquette.  I wish him a bright future.

Markusquette

Good Luck to Liam.  He is a great guy and I am sad to hear this.  I think we all knew it was coming but it still hurts.

Daniel

Outside of not being able to play basketball, I hope that he is alright.  Sad for all of us, but especially for him.  I hope he is ok.  All the best to him

Don't think it is a heart condition.
I have heard some other cryptic comments like this and due to their cryptic nature I have been unable to ascertain the true meaning.  so what do you think it is?  Turf Toe?

Don't think it is a heart condition.

Does it matter?  Even if you know something, let it be.  McMorrow is not a true "public figure" there's no reason to speculate on an anonymous message board what his medical condition might be.

whatever it is, I wish Liam the best. Hope he gets his broadcasting degree and fills the void left by the much-welcomed release of Stephen A. Smith.
