Article mentions Donovan, Izzo and Calipari.

Should be interesting how this shakes out and what it means to MU if anything (transfers, decommits, etc).

Tom Crean's Tanning Bed

I think it's Donovan's to lose (again).

Seeing what's been going on at Florida since his NBA flirtations (2 straight NITs), I think it's prime time to get out.  He's still got plenty of recruiting cache as a 2-time National Champion coach, but I think he's somewhat wounded by staying at Florida.
The General has taken on a new command.

Bet they feel really stupid for forcing Tubby out at this point...

Of those 3, my moneys on Calipari

Blackhat

Is Donovan the sure thing hire he seemed to be after 2006?    Anthony Grant may be the real McCoy.

Why?  Tubby had that program on the downslope, talent and results wise...

GGGG

I think Calipari likes to be at a school like Memphis.  He can whoop up on weaker schools, get a good seed, and bring in solid recruits.  No pressure whatsoever.

Gillespie to assistant coach at MU!

This whole coaching wheel will be interesting in the next week or so.

Heres some thoughts on a few:

Kentucky
Calapari - If he  gets John Wall, it would be the best recruiting class ever. Nah
Izzo - Can't see him in blue
Donovan - I would yes at this point.
Travis Ford - ex blueshirt, would fit in with alumni, but they want the big
                                 name.
Alabama
Anthony Grant offered, but not taken yet.  I assume since Grant is an ex-coach                              under Donovan at Florida, he is waiting to see if Donovan leaves.  If not, Grant goes to Bama.

Georgia
No clue, maybe Mike Anderson from Mizzo

Arizona
I say Jaime Dixon who was an assistant under Ben Howland at No. Arizona and has west coast ties. If Blair goes pro, Pitt loses everybody.

PITT
If Dixon goes, its Sean Miller time.

Virginia
Mike Brey from ND.  ND loses everyone except Harangody, who is now "testing" draft.  No big recruits coming in. Welcome back to ACC.

Notre Dame
Too far out to even conceive.  Bill Laimbeer.  Who cares.

Coach Cal and Rick Pitino the same state?  Slick alert!!

Did Smith ever miss the NCAA Tournament?

VegasWarrior77

I was watching the ESPN preview of tonight's games and they mentioned a tv "tease" about Pitino possibly going to Arizona???  I didn't see any follow up because I switched to CBS.  Anybody else see this???

How about DePaul getting rid of The Wainwright??
He's HUGE: http://www.jerrywainwright.com/
They, the fans, would like: http://firejerrywainwright.com/successors.html

This would all mean that DePaul decides to get serious again about their program and firing JW after a big contract extension.

Buzz Williams, because it's Kentucky! It's Kentucky!

The Man in Gold

Tough to see Mike Anderson leaving the good life at Mizzou for a program whose biggest highlight over the past decade is 4 wins in 3 days to get a 14 seed in the NCAA's.  Not to say he wouldn't consider moving back to the south, but he worked so hard to build mizzou, tough to see him taking such a step back.

Izzo to UK, Crean to MSU, Buzz to Its IUIU

From a UGA insider... take it for what it's worth...

Donavon to UK
Anthony Grant to UF
Mike Anderson to UGA

We just have to check the flight logs and we will be able to know who the next coach will be. ;D

Would Grant be interesting in UVA???...can't see Brey landing there.

Dish

Brey has been linked repeatedly to the UVA job. He'd be going back home, very natural fit at a school like Virginia.

1990Warrior

A couple of other names from Lexington: Thad Motta and Jay Wright.

Hard to think about Wright not at Villanova but if I was UK and could not get Donovan, I would give him a hard look.

Am I the only one who doesn't see UGA as a step up from Mizzou? When was the last time UGA was any good... Plus basketball will always play second fiddle in the SEC

Comments at the bottom of this link included this quote:  "For anyone who says Kentucky is the premier job....HA.  I can think of at 10 better jobs than Kentucky right now (Kansas, Duke, UNC, UCLA, Pitt, Marquette, Michigan State, Syracuse, Louisville, Villanova)"

An encouraging indicator, and I believe we can all agree that this wouldn't have been said 5 years ago.

rocky_warrior

I don't think there's a chance Donovan goes to UK.  He's got a sweet $3+ million/year deal going at Florida for another 5 years.  Seems stupid to walk away fro that.

However, there is a weird clause in his contract, in which case he'd need to accept the UK job in the next 5 days...
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/mensbasketball/sec/2008-10-03-florida-donovan-extension_N.htm
QuoteThe school and Donovan will also have a window from March 1 to April 1 each year in which either party can terminate the contract without cause and not be subject to the buyouts.

CAINMUTINY

When is UK going to realize they will NEVER be as dominant as they once were? I would get a seasoned coahc and keep him there for a minimum of 7+ years to prevent alienating your recruiting base.....

At Kentucky he could continue to land solid recruits and come on, the SEC?  That conference isn't all that difficult either.  Granted, it's tougher than CUSA but after Kentucky, TENN, UF, and occassionally Vandy who else do you have to contend with?
