The class entering fall 2011 will be huge for Marquette.  The class entering now will be juniors and will likely need some holes filled.  The class entering 2010 looks like it will add some solid role players in Clark and Bowen, and they still have at least one spot left to hopefully get a servicable point guard.  But, it will be nice to add some talent when these guys (Cadougan, Williams, Maymon) are juniors.

Crean's biggest failure to the last group of seniors was to more or less only add one player while they were there.  Granted, Tyshawn Taylor was a Crean recruit, but how disappointing for these outgoing players not to have added any big guys or depth when they were juniors.

Crean was a very over rated recruiting considering he could not add a good player without an essentially guaranteed starting spot or featured role in the offense.  Let's see if Buzz can do better.

Actually, for threee seasons Crean had a guaranteed starting spot on a top 20 team with a featured role for a solid 6-8 or better guy, and still couldn't land one.

Right.  Crean is an extremely overrated recruiter.

I think another helpful thing for Buzz compared to Crean will be Buzz's more open, equal opportunity offense which allows for more players to be involved. This way, even if we have solid star players like the 3 amigos, they see a way to be involved in the offense if they can make plays. We just didn't have the players with the confidence to take their opportunities and they have always deferred to the big 3, so they weren't looking to create before. With Crean, it was all about whose number was called, and if you weren't one of the top guys you probably didn't get your number called, ( like wes matthews). While James was made into more of a scoring point guard and dominate the ball more with Crean, with Buzz we saw him as a distributor and setting up other players.
It will be interesting to see how Buzz uses his bench when he gets his recruits in. Will he be a guy that still only plays a limited amount of guys, or a bunch of guys in the 18-25 minute range? If he shows a deeper bench it will help us a lot in recruiting.

Buzz absolutely will play a deeper bench.  please people Buzz wanted to win as did we all, everyone expects Buzz to win or epects the AD to  f ire him if he ddi not.  My goodness people want to nit pick every loss with minutiae about this coaching move or that.  Folks we have 4 Big East caliber players on the roster, 5 the last month when you add in Butler, No BE caliber 5 and a greatly undersized BE 4 in Lazar, especially when you consider we have no 5.  Please let the guy as he says "have 9-10 high major players"  and then watch him interchange them ala aMizzou and memphis game last night.  guarantee Buzz watched that game and said 'that is us in 2 years"

I don't think anyone is too critical of the job Buzz did this year, but anytime you lose a close one there is going to be criticisms of a coach.  And we lost our fair share of close ones.

As for Crean, part of the reason he couldn't recruit a big guy is b/c he never emphasized post play in his offense.  In his offense, the post player was to stand underneath the basket and wait for a pass after a guard created something for him.  He runs a very guard-oriented offense making recruiting big men that much more difficult.
