Flipping through stations tonight, I saw that FX had on Cast Away. I immediately thought...how friggin' fitting...and I settled in with the popcorn finding all the many different ways to look at that flick and the MU season/Big Three era.

To me, the plane crash was Dom's injury. We went down. But survived and struggled through our new life (see UConn, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse), figuring out ways to carry on.

Even when many of us gave up on the team (Hanks attempted suicide), fate had more in store for us.

And so, we all sought new life in the Big East tournament, hoping for a few wins and a new-found confidence (Hanks discovering the walls of the port-o-potty...his future "sail"). And even though we lost a heartbreaker to 'Nova, we knew that the NCAA still hovered near and we had a shot at doing some damage.

So we finally get a game to fall in our favor. A win that saw us hit some shots. We finally struck through. And to make matters even more optimistic...we were getting James back!!!! (Hanks finally getting off the island!)

We're all on cloud nine in watching us scratch and claw back today. Even getting the lead (we get rescued by the ship!).

And then, it alllll comes crashing down as we find it was all for naught. Our dreams of sweet sixteen-dom are shot in ways that had to be seen to be believed. We are finished. (Hanks finding out Kelly has remarried).

And now, like Hanks, we all have to keep breathing. Cuz tomorrow is a new day. The sun will come up and we don't know what lies ahead for the program, only that we'll all, hopefully, be better off for it. But the bottom line is...a new day is coming. And who knows what the tide will bring (Hanks staring memorably as he stands at the crossroads after delivering his final package, with nobody in site in either direction).

It was great seeing the flick again and almost theraputic.

Bring on the Maymon, Bucyks, Cadougan era!!! See you in seven months.

Pretty damn good analogy Niv.

I thought it was ironic considering the FedEx crash in Tokyo.
