I too think our team is as good as Nova's but the committee's criteria suggests that they get a 3-4 and we get a 6-7.  Them's the breaks.  Had we won today, the story would have been different, but not so different.  Perhaps 1 seed drop by nova and one seed gain by MU.

There is absolutely no way in hell we get the same seed as Villanova....to even think that is remarkable.  They will nearly be a top 10 team going into the tournament....definitely will if they beat L'ville tomorrow.  We'll be lucky to be top 25....a 6 seed would be a gift at this point.  We should be happy with a 7 at this point....I have an awful feeling they'll give us an 8 to create some "marquee" 8 vs. 9 matchup...that would be awesome.

FSU? Utah? Kansas just lost to a crappy baylor team; Illinois scoredd 33 points at home in one game this year; Clemson just lost to GT...you got to be kidding me with these teams. Besides Kansas, MU would roll any of the other teams I just mentioned.

Hey that's fine, but just saying it doesn't make it so...and apparently you missed the part where I said I would argue against most in the second group.

Personally, I would put MU ahead of Utah, Clemson, FSU, Illinos, Purdue, and probably Tennessee. That would make the 19th seed overall - a 5 - at this moment. I think that's fair. Unfortunately, I don't trust the committee to agree with me, and obviously there are still games to be played.

When we get screwed and get an 8 seed, how pissed is everyone going to be?

Angry, but not surprised. That said, I actually do have a fair amount of faith in the commitee doing us right, and slotting us somewhere 5-7. We could use some helo in the rest of teh conference tournaments, but after what I witnessed today, you could never convince mewe don't belong within a line or two of Villanova. same goes for Syracuse.

Look at the 5-10 seed projected teams and is there any way to conclude we are not in the upper half of that group?

mustever

6.....possibly a 7.....I don't see an 8.....

Not at all if Memphis is the #1 seed in that region.

6, with some help.  Like Pitt beating WVA.  WVA up 7 with 14 minutes to go.

Memphis ain't getting a 1.  Let's hope that if we get the 7, though, Memphis is the 2 in our region.

I think Memphis could fall into a number one if things like, Pitt and Oklahoma losing, keep happening.  They will likely roll to a conference championship.

Edit - By no means was I endorsing Memphis as a contender to win it all.

As long as we are seeded higher than Wisconsin, if they make it, all is good!   ;D

The seeding of the Big East teams in front of us could also affect our seed since we can't match up with another Big East team before the Elite 8.  We'll have to be staggered differently from the teams in front of us.

For example, if 3 Big East teams are seeded #1, we are more likely to be a 6 or 7.  The only region we could be an 8 is with the non-Big East team.  We can only be a 2, 3, 6, or 7 in the same region as a 1.  Nova is probably a 2 or 3.  If Syracuse or WVU are a 4 or 5, they can only be in the same region as the non-Big East #1, eliminating us from any chance of an 8.

If there are 2 Big East teams seeded #1, it opens the possibility of an 8 a little more.

It was this type of scenario that helped to push us down to a #8 against Mich St.  Every Big East team in front of us was a 2, 3, or 6, which helped push us down a seed to #8 so we couldn't match up with another Big East team.  It didn't get mentioned much, but if you looked at the brackets, you could see that we couldn't have been a 7 at all because there was no region possible where we could have been a 7.

Given our play I would really prefer to be a 6 or a 7.  I think we win the first round, no question.  This team can still play.  And the last several games has given them a chance to gel with the new players, and they are gelling.  They have a few more days of practice, and then a first round game they should win.  I think with that, it is enough that as a 6 or 7 we can beat a 3 or 2 seed.  Anyone seeded 2 or 3 is basically all we have been playing the last few weeks.  We are *this close* to beating them and now that we have had time together, I think they can pull it off and make the sweet 16.  After that, well we shall see.  I don't think, absent some luck, that we beat a 1 seed, so an 8 would be tragic.

doesn't much matter. This team is done.

PREPARE for the 8 in Greensboro

9.

The only thing keeping MU in the tournament is that the committee won't want to set the dangerous precedent of keeping out a 12 conference win team.

6. It all depends on whether the committee takes into account that we hung in with 3 potential number one seeds. Although I can see the selection committee slamming us for our record without DJ.

Don't forget we've got to worry about those seeded ahead of us in our conference.  I would not be surprised to see us be the 7th Big East team since WVU beat Pitt today.  I know we beat them but all we've shown the committee is that we can lose to a good team in a close game without James.

Figure Louisville, UConn and Pitt will gobble 2 1s and a 2.  Nova a 4, Cuse a 5 or 6 and WVU a 7.  I think we're in the 8-9 game in whatever region the best Big East team is a 2.

I think we are a 7 with an outside chance at 6.  A win today maybe secures the 6, but most likely it would have had minimal impact.

Agreed.

I would say this has changed significantly in the last 24 hours. 'Nova and 'Cuse would both seem to be solid 3/4 seeds. I don't see WVU any lower than a 5/6 at this point.

One thing's for sure, we are all gonna find out what the committee thinks of this year's Big East. Probably fewer teams than would have been expected will get in, but I think they will likely be rewarded with very nice seeds.

Fewer teams will get in, because Georgetown and Notre Dame didn't hold up their end of the donkey.  This should've been a 9 bid league...thanks GT and ND.....

We'll be the lowest seeded Big East team. 8 or 9 I would guess.

The scary thing to think about - as each year passes the Committee keeps falling down the slippery slope of putting more emphasis on how a team is playing at the moment and not rewarding season long performance - the only thing keeping us out of the NIT could be the Providence loss to Louisville.

I actually wish we would go back to a 24 or 32 team field, only have regular season conference champions qualify and not have to hear 8th and 9th place teams cry about getting snubbed.

the sad thing is, I could see the committee knocking the BE teams that lost yesterday to a 2 and losing their minds putting MSU or Memphis as a 1. I'll take an 8 if it means we'd play either of them in the second round. Or a 7 if they end up as 2 seeds  ;)
