What exactly makes people think that making more posts makes them more credible? I just don't understand the rationale behind so many people making comments about the number of posts someone has made.

Talking more does not make you smarter.

I only have like 45 posts on here, but I have been to just as many games, if not more, than other people on here, and I know just as much about MU basketball as anyone else.

If you don't agree with someone, that's fine. But don't think that because you spend more time on this website that your opinion is any more valid than mine or anyone else's who doesn't post daily.

I agree "skianth16", but you could use a better name.  Your current handle looks like an email address that's offering me hot asian porn in my spam folder.

in your case, the lack of credibility has nothing to do with the post count and everything to do with your first post being "fire buzz."

Fire Buzz - was a cute comment.  Sort of like something my 3 year old would say.
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

Your points are not invalid because of the number of posts you have made. Neither are Tribby's. They are invalid because they are unreasonable.

RawdogDX

I don't remember ever reading a post of yours but i'll give you a generic answer, don't get offended:

Anyone who says posters with <X posts aren't worth talking to are jackasses but....

It isn't just the number of posts.  Let's pretend that a message board is a place where people interact.  These people have names and they talk to each other about things that they share mutual interests in, basically it's JUST LIKE IN REAL LIFE.
And in real life the more you talk to people the more you learn about them, by talking to them you find out if they are smart/avg/dumb, if they are cool/hot headed, if they put a lot of thought into their comments or if they just say whatever, or if they research things or do they just repeat any old rumor.  That is how life works when you talk to people.
Why should it be differnet here?  If some poster that has 1000+ posts then that means i've read a ton of them and he's read a ton of mine.  If the two of us start talking to one another then the things i've read before influence how i respond to his comments.

Here's a hypothetical to illustrate what I'm trying to say.  (In this assume it's the day after DJ went down and assume you thought we still had a shot to go far)
1)  So In real life you have a friend and you know him well and you know that he knows tons about basketball in general and MU, you have talked to him many times and value his input.  The day after DJ's injury he says "i've been thinking about it and we aren't making it past the 2nd round."  Think about how you would respond.
2) You are in a bar and some stranger you've never met before walks over to you slurring and says "I've been thinking about it and we aren't making it past the 2nd round."

Do you respond the exact same way?  Do you immediately assume that this guy is a level headed person who knows a ton about basketball and MU?    No you don't.  Because most people aren't.  Most people only talk after a loss and bitch about things they don't understand.  And I'm not going to assume someone has ties to the university, coaching experience or some level of understanding i might not posses until they show me that they do.

So it's not about the number, it's about posting enough for people to get to know you and that you have something to offer.  I don't "know" you the same way i "know" 4ever, chico, bislu or sugar.  It doesn't mean that you know less about MU basketball than they do, but you do have to post often enough to convince me, because this is the internet and for all i know you are a 15 year old badger fan.

Yeah, and all the "Buzz is god" garbage is any better. At least your three year old wouldn't just be repeating what everyone else is saying

I get what you're saying and you're right. Interacting with someone lets you know how they think and whether or not they think similarly to you. But just because the first thing someone says disagrees with your opinion does not make them less intelligent or credible, which is the way many people think on this board.

The point of message boards is not so that everyone can repeat each other. It's to have a place for everyone's opinion to be heard. It's impossible to convince some people that they are not in fact the smartest person on here and that other opinions are just as valid

Is the title "fire Buzz" unreasonable? yes. Did it catch the attention of more people than "not a great first year"? Absolutely.

And read our posts. Trebby and myself have been some of the more collected people posting. The outbursts and ridiculous sarcasm by people too afraid to accept that other opinions exist are the ones who are unreasonable.

The "Fire Buzz" thing is pretty ridiculous.  If you post something like that, you will get people jumping down your throat.  You are more than entitled to your opinion though.  And some people think that personally attacking you will make their opinions more credible and discount yours.  That's life.  So you can't take anything too seriously on this board.  Some people think they are Gods because the number of posts even though so many people post "+100000000" which doesn't add anything but a number to their counter.

Did your 3 year old sign on your computer and start the thread,  How do we keep Buzz?

Mayor McCheese

I agreed with your post up until you measured your knowledge of MU basketball with how many games you have been to.

I am not doubting your knowledge of MU basketball, but attending games isn't a good measure.

I don't go to games for multiple reasons...
1.  Not an alum, harder to get tickets
2.  Coach basketball, not much free time (although season is now over due to losing in Sectional Semi-Finals)
3.  Money Issues

Does this make me less credible of a source for MU basketball because I can't attend games?

Just playing devil's advocate.

Some people's opinions aren't "just as valid."  You sound like the stereotypical frat boy BUAD major that sits in his required philosophy course, spouts out some nonsense theory, then defends himself with, "hey, that's just my opinion bro."

See, you both don't seem to understand that some opinions are in fact objectively better than others.  An opinion based on a large amount of factual evidence is better than one that is not.  Some opinions follow sound logic and some do not.  Some opinions come from people with some sort of expertise on a given subject and some don't.

You're right, this is a place where everyone can have their opinion heard.  However, this is also a place where you should be prepared to defend that opinion because others will often disagree with you and in some cases present a very convincing argument against you.

You will also get called names by people you don't know, so it helps to have a sense of humor, some wit, and thick skin.

What's with the shot at BUAD majors?

Rawdog is dead on in his post. It's a lot easier to hear something from a familar face than some new guy who just arrived. But to say people with low post counts have worthless opinions is dumb. Everyone has to start somewhere.

I have over 2000 posts I believe and 200 are probably a mixture of videos, game predictions, and subtle jabs at robmufan. That proves that post count doesn't equal knowledge of basketball. A majority of the board probably has a far greater knowledge of Marquette basketball than me seeing as I never saw a Marquette game before 2002.
EDIT: I knew nothing of Marquette basketball before 2002.

I did not spend much time in the fire buzz thread...becuase with a subject line like that, it was definitely going to be a calm and rational discussion.  That being said, anyone who claims they 'know just as much about MU basketball as anyone else' is a yahoo in my book.

You have a dissenting opinion?  Fine by me, I like those...but let your conversations show us how much you know about MU bball, not egotistical posts like the above.  Posts like that might lead to you losing some credibility with other posters no matter what your post count is.
