In my family, we still call them the "Warriors."

Nice to hear the Marquette fans chant, "We are Marquette."

Mike Patrick sounded deliberate. Almost made up for 40 minutes of Elmore and Hightower.

And well they should have. They will always be the Warriors.

Love the chant at the end of the game....that's the third road game this year where our fans were louder than the home fans...including DePaul and ND...good stuff.

This treehugging liberal calls MU the Warriors.  But thanks, 06, for elevating the conversation.

Did you forget to use teal?

The vast, vast, vast majority of Marquette fans call them the Golden Eagles. Like it or not, its been the nickname for 15 years now. The MU freshmen were 3 years old when the name change happened. I doubt they care much.

That's assuming there are more MU fans twenty-something and younger than twenty-something and older.

The student section busts out the Let's Go Warriors chant every single game.

I don't believe that.  If you said the majority of MU fans refer to the team as "Marquette" .. as in "Marquette is doing pretty well this year." or "Great win for MU today."

Yes.

But I've just never heard anyone say "Great win for the Golden Eagles."

Warriors, yes.  Marquette, yes.  MU yes.  Very rarely "Golden Eagles".

Its really all about where the microphones are placed.  We were loud at ND, but the ND fans drowned us out fairly easily if they actually tried.

I'm ashamed of the unoriginal, lame___ Golden Eagle name.  It should be relegated to po dunk schools in Mississippi.     I love the Marquette name.   I love the Warrior name.   It works too good and makes too much sense, the Priests/liberal propaganda had to ruin it.

And I'm in my 20's.

As a tree hugging liberal who loved the Warrior name and wasted my vote by writing in 'Warrior' during the "Gold" debacle, regardless of what we all think, this ship has sailed.  However, I have a proposal.   Where two or more MU fans are gathered to watch the game, we institute the "Warrior" drinking game.   Every time an announcer calls them by that beloved name, and it happens once a game it seems, every MU fan in the place slams their drink.

I refuse to believe there is nothing we can do about the Golden Eagle name.

Now I've been around the college campus scene long enough now to know the ship has probably sailed on getting the Warrior name back. That would take leadership with backbone and non-herd mentality which is far too void in college administrations/faculty.

I'd rather just go by Marquette, no nickname, and a T Rex for a mascot.

yeah it's not fair to infer that you can imply tone with the written word.  so maybe just not say (borderline?) offensive things?

That was my point during the Gold debacle.  My choices were:

1.  Warriors (wasn't going to happen, but that was what should have happened).
2.  No Nickname.  (We don't need one.  We are Marquette!)
3.  Golden Eagles (Because we now had 10+ years at the time of graduates that were "Golden Eagles")

To change it to something else just takes another decade plus of Marquette graduates and renders them without an identity.

This whole thing is stupid.

My wife (not a Marquette grad) calls us the Golden Showers.  Yeah, she thinks our nickname is very inspiring.  LOL!
