Tom Crean's Tanning Bed

http://deadspin.com/362762/georgetown+marquette-eventually-reaches-exciting-conclusion

In case anyone wants to watch this today to get their blood boiling again for Saturday.

However, in watching this, I cannot help but wonder how much differently this year's team would handle a finish like this.  Granted, I don't think this year's team would blow a 10 point lead in the mid-second half to put themselves in a spot like this, but nonetheless, I would like to think it would be certainly a lot more improved.

Thanks for ruining my Friday afternoon sunshine.  That game really had me steaming last year.

You should have seen my buddy last night after the bar when we rewatched this.  I thought he was going to go on a killing spree after this  :o

I would hope we would not foul beyond the arc, or if we did it would be well before the shooter was on his way up. Very disappointing game.

I'm still fired up about James getting called for a foul on that 3-point attempt with less than 3 seconds to go.  That should have been a non-call.

That's one thing that we've been impressed with this year, but you can't say enough about.  A senior-laden team has that killer instinct.  Though we'll try to forget about the Rutgers game since it was strange and an exception.  But when they were freshmen, sophomores, even juniors it didn't come easy to close out a game, and a second half lead for the other team was a huge obstacle to overcome.  It's been awesome to have them close out games: turning a battle with WVU into a blowout, coming back from way down in the second half to beat Providence, holding steady down the stretch at ND.  You're not going to see this for at least a few more years, so enjoy it while you can.

I'd say Crean f'ed up the last 10 minutes of that game and showed once again what a genius he is on the bench. Given the same scenerio this time, I'm sure the outcome will be different.
For those who remember, Dick Strong seemed very pissed at the head coach immediately at the conclusion.

Thanks for ruining my afternoon, General. That's probably right up there with Garcia, Gaines, & Smith, and the Lopez twins as far as the most epic MU defeats over the past 10 years.

+1...Plus I was in section 425 with Hoya fans in my ear after that horrendous loss. Ugh!!

MR.HAYWARD

amazing how badly Crean would panic and choke games away.  We would go into such a slowdown we often did not get shots off.  Nothing like running a set with 6 seconds left on the clock.  So glad those dyas are over.

My son was a ballboy for the game and he didn't stop crying after for about 15 minutes.

what are you going to show us next? That doofus Lopez hitting the shot that knocked us out of the tourney?
Thank you, sir, may I have another?

ChicosBailBonds

It's funny how many forget our free throw shooting in last year's game.  That's what cost us the game.

We shot 22 for 36, 61%.   Hell, if we shoot 62% we win that game in regulation.

It would be different this year, indeed.  Buzz would realize that when you are up by 3 with 7 seconds to go, the other team MUST shoot a 3 to tie the game.  An easy f***ing way to prevent that is to foul someone before they can shoot, giving them TWO foul shots.

Sure they might intentionally miss the 2nd FT to hope for a tip in to tie, but the chances of getting a rebound off a FT is WAAAAAY lower than your usual 30-40% 3-point shot.

To this day, I think it was a clean strip, that the G-town player's first reaction was to put two thumbs up asking for a jump ball.   Having said that, still a dumb play by DJ.

The only upside of that clip is Gus Johnson calling the game.

What is amazing is how you can bring every topic to how bad Crean was!  First, I never saw Crean suit up and he certainly isn't the player who waited for Gtown players to start to shoot and then reached in for a steal, and he wasn't the player who then dribbled to the sideline and turned the ball over.  In short Crean did not "choke games away" that falls on the players.  Finally, we have one example, for Buzz, of a end of game scenario so far(DJ throwing up a wild 3 that thankfully went in).  Objectively, we were lucky as hell that DJ's falling sideways 3 pt. shot went in.  So, forget about Crean, Buzz is our coach Go MARQUETTE, beat Gtown!
