"I don't give a damn if he can't do nothing else. He can shoot, and I love the way he shoots. I don't care if he can't dribble, can't rebound, can't play defense... that kid can shoot the ball." - Tracy McGrady on Steve Novak

I'd almost say that shook our guys up a bit...

One of the stranger things I've seen at any Marquette game I've watched.  Thankfully he didn't seem to have harming somebody as his first thought, as he certainly seemed to get close enough.

Detfan23

Just a terrible job by security.  To the hell with winning, lets just get out of this mess without getting injured.

CreightonWarrior

that was the biggest over reaction I have ever seen. It was a clean foul. Xavier was out of control as he went to the locker room. Look at the replay, he took three steps.

Tulsa Warrior

Coach Davis needed to step in a bit more.

Buzz Williams' Spillproof Chiclets Cup

I was under the impression that fans going on the court or throwing things on the court was a technical foul on the home team. No?

I thought it was great how Xavier had a hissy hit when his "Homie" was thrown out great stuff. Also great how buzz just came and grabbed fulce

GO_MU02

i thought it was suppose to be a technical foul too   ?-(

I think they'll usually have the PA announcer give a warning before they assess a technical for fans throwing things on the court.  I'm not sure there's anything in the rulebook addressing fans who want to have a face-to-face chat with a ref.

Bob Valvano said the fan was a relative of Jeff Xavier.

Call it a "C-USA moment."

When Xavier sees the replay of the foul, he will be embarassed to hell.

augoman

wow, what an overreaction!  Most guys go to the bench, take a few stitches, butterfly it up and go back in!  I guess at Manhattan College they didn't get fouled.

It was absolutely clean on Fulce's part.  It actually looked like Xavier ran into Fulce's arm/elbow.  He had his arms straight up.  Was glad to see Fulce out there and getting some needed points from the bench

I liked how the refs completely bitched out after that and called every play for Provi. Scared of the dude's wrath I guess.

Here's a good one from a PC fan. Made me chuckle.

I can't believe there was not a technical on that play!!  WTF?!?!

BTW... call it overreaction on my part, but if I was Buzz, I would have pulled the players off the court.  That was completely inexcusable by security and just imagine if that guy was armed and went after one of our players?

Glad we pulled it out but that was a effed up scene.

Agreed LastWarrior. I frankly would have threatened to leave if it wasn't called a T. You can't have that at a sports event. It's just not acceptable under any circumstances. Period.

nyg

The fact the guy was standing in the lane for that long is very bad.  First one on scene was a small female, looked like an assistant PU trainer, then a rent-a-cop security guard in a gray tee shirt.  Not one police officer running to the court.  There will definitely be an after action report/review and heads will roll at the Donut Center.

+1  How is that not a T on their bench?  Fans can't throw anything on the court, etc.  Totally F'd up.  Plus the fact that they showed it like 9 times during the course of the game.  Rarely do they give losers like that any air time (ala the NFL who refuses to show drunk d-bags that get on the field).

I hope the ED @ PU is good, cause them girlz is U.G.L.Y.  They look like they start fights @ hockey games.  Reminds me of the top row @ the ol Chicago Stadium for Blackhawk games.

I thought he did run out on the court and grab his players.. Joe especially.

He did.  Everybody walked away except McNeal who stood there dumbfounded by what was going on.

Big East Warriors

It was that guy's brother...from ESPN..Lawrence Lepore, the executive director of the Dunkin' Donuts Center, said Jonathan Xavier -- Jeff's brother -- came down from the stands and jumped over the Providence bench to get onto the court. Security hustled him off, and he left without much of a fight, waiting peacefully under the stands with a guard while police were summoned.

Jonathan Xavier was taken to the Providence police station and will be charged with disorderly conduct, Lepore said.

Thye could have called a technical on Buzz for coming on the court also. Maybe the refs did the best thing by not calling anything.
