So you are fine with yelling "Burke you F&*!@#% suck get off the damn court" everytime he takes a shot? Because that is what the author was talking about

Burke's Numbers;
Min 17.1
PPG: 2.0
Reb 3.4
Ast 0.1
Blk 0.4
TO 1.1

Yes I think yelling "Burke you F&*!@#% suck get off the damn court" is acceptable.
I like the guy that yelled that, that dude was probably drunk.

"Did you see how many beers That Guy in front of us drank at the game?"

Also the reason some of the people in the front row don't drink is because
1.They can't drink a ton in line while waiting to get in.  Makes it tough to get drunk because you have waited in line all this time and don't wanna screw up and not get your spot or get in.
2.Beer is expensive as crap at the BC
3.It's really expensive when compared to the $2.50 pitchers after the game

I can say if someone wants to buy me a beer at the game I will gladly take and drink it as would most of the over 21 people (don't want to "break" the law) in the front rows.  So buy us beers and we will drink

Sorry to burst your bubble but he wasn't drunk.  The students need to stand behind him and help him gain some confidence.  We are currently very short on the bench and he needs to play the best he can

You cant put a price on a good buzz at an MU game. But I guess Im just your typical "Drunk sports fan"
and i LOVE it.

Now I'm going to take a break from posting since I can't avoid slinging insults.**

I have no problem ripping on players on the other team, but to make fun of people for disabilities, color of skin, or using other slang derogatory terms is just wrong.

I like to make fun of what people wear -- that's okay right??  :D

YES.

I have posted before the lack of drinking prowess by the students these days. MU used to be an outstanding institution when it came to preparing its students for any beer olympics. today's MU classes just dont drink as much as previous years. Students these days should be ashamed of themselves.

To stop any of the thats not true replies to this, I know that there are kids in MU that do get obligatoraly (word?) drunk on a Friday at 1 just for the fun of it, but they are few and far between these days.

Why, because we are academically superior as opposed to being cirrhosis time bombs?  What about our Muslim students, shame on them!

PS Obligatorily, and you're welcome.

yes, you can make fun of people for whatever you wish.  i personally leave the disabled alone, that is my preference.  however, most other stuff is fair game.

at the last game, i went and sat in the student section since it was empty and i could get closer seats.  i actually heard a guy comment that none of the students had probably even seen a breast before.  this is coming from someone outside of the student section.  you know what, i agreed with him too.  sure were a lot of wieners in the student section that night.  at least these wieners show up for the games, so that i do appreciate

Rocky, where did "that guy" go?  he brought some life to the board.  how long is he on a break.  my dad told me he was going to get a pack of cigarettes and he hasn't come back yet.  that was 18 years ago.  i hope "that guys" break isn't to the same place my dad went to get cigarettes.

You pretty much have the reasons for lack of loudness summed up...

1. Those who get to the games very early would lose their buzz if they drank by game time anyway.
2. Those of us who get to the game drunk get there late.  Yelling at Burke and the refs doesn't have the same effect from the upper deck as it does in the first few rows.  Getting there earlier means being much less drunk, losing the buzz, or paying too much for beer:
3. Beer is $7 for the decent sized one.  Two beers for $14 or a whole case beforehand?  Four beers at the game or a night's worth of drinks downtown afterward?  Plus, the few people who smuggle beer in usually prefer to be in the less noticable upper level.  Usually the best compromise is to get there early enough to get in the lower level, where freshmen are so desperate for beer that they will give you a $10 bill to get them a beer.
4. Each year there has been more and more babysitting going on by the security, which also seems to get greater in number by the year.  There are rarely any problems in the student section; leave them alone.
5. If you want to characterize students to find why they don't go to games, I'd say it's less to the effect of "weiner kids", more of the pretentious type that doesn't want to be seen wearing the cheap gold t-shirt everybody else is wearing in public.

just to throw this in there... the beers are $7 for 22 oz. of beer. thats nearly two beers, which comes out to a little over $3.50 per beer.  so no more arguing that they are 7 bucks a piece... If you can't drink two beers at a time... well... thats sad

This is where I'd like to salute the end of the era with the graduating class of 2006.

Remember when beers were $4.25...

Heh - only for a week.  Though I guess it's his choice if he comes back.  For what you may ask - he started throwing down some insults towards Gwaki.  We allow a lot of freedom here - insult coaches, rivals, players (to some extent), and even the student section in general - but don't make it personal.  Disagreeing is fine, name calling is not tolerated.

muwarrior87

let's get back on track.  F'bombs, racial slurs, disability related slurs, and the like are not acceptable. I don't care where you go.  There is a difference between being loud and obnoxious and just acting like an idiot.  While I'm all for the former, let's represent the school and ourselves with a little more dignity than some of the students have shown this year.  MUfan12 and Ahoya know how to do the obnoxious stuff without crossing the line.  Myself, gwaki, TT and others have tried to carry on that type of fan experience in the student section.  Hell, half the damn people that have come to the games this year don't even pay attention to the game. They are too busy commenting on how an opposing team's player has a small t-shirt on under his jersey or just swearing randomly without thinking about what's going on with the game.

Let's beat the piss out of the Commies on the court and get loud without calling people "faggots" and f'ers

how could a guy whose name is rugbydrummer (i assume that you played rugby at marquette) not understand and appreciate the role that alcohol plays in providing a complete marquette education?!?!?!?

Real fans know how to be loud, obnoxious, boisterous, raucous, appropriate, while doing it sober and then getting wasted on the  cheap later.   Why would anyone want to get hammered beforehand, have to pee the whole time, and only remember half of the game?    Use the energy and creativity of youth to be really creative.   I remember clearly David Rivers shot to beat us in 85.   I don't remember the rest of the night because I proceeded to get puking drunk.

Rugbydrummer is actually a girl and played in the band, dont let this opinion make you think all former band people feel this way, her priorities are out of whack just a bit. Its college folks, and as we know, alcohol is always involved to some sort of a degree.

I think muwarrior87's got it right.  It's not the fact that people are yelling at the refs or the other players.  That's to be expected at any major sporting event.  I don't even think that the language that is used is the problem (but I agree keep the racist etc. stuff out of it).  The biggest problem (and what leads to people getting offended) is when the quality of heckling is substandard.

Yelling obscenities at the top of your lungs doesn't accomplish anything worthwhile.  Screaming at a ref for a call that was made that was actually correct only shows that you don't know what you're talking about.

It's like the use of the F-bomb.  When George Carlin dropped an F-bomb in one of his routines it had a purpose; but when some kid walking down the street uses it as a filler work it doesn't work any more.  Carlin comes off as a comic genius, the kid just looks like an ass who learned a new dirty word.

I don't care what you yell or who you yell it at, but don't just yell something to sound like an idiot.

Strokin 3s

I don't care what anyone is yelling as long as it is making the BC louder.  We don't have nearly enough yelling now, no matter what the words are.  So have an extra one this game students!  The theory of the buzz wearing off by the time you get in is rubbish.  You get let in two hours before the game starts.

Rugbydrummer... do you have a personal grudge to settle with wisconsin this saturday after what their band does to female members??? be thankful you are at marquette where band sexual harassment is kept to a minimum, or atleast not reported.

Man do I have to spell it out for you guys......ok.

It's a crazy idea, but.....you get drunk again, and its much easier this time.  Has no one else ever heard of the "Shampoo Effect", same logic applies here.  As previous poster mentioned, a flash of captain will do you well.
