Why would you sign early?  How about to lock in your scholarship offer from the school while still honoring your commitment to your mother.

Indeed, also by signing in spring instead of now, it would eliminate potential rumors/distractions over what player would be leaving to make way for Wilson's scholarship.

I could see waiting a couple of days or even weeks to make an announcement on a special day, but 5 months???  Wow.

AHHH...So that's why buzz stopped recruiting him.  Buzz called, Jamil said "I'm going to Marquette but I don't want you to tell anyone yet", and Buzz replied "OK, I'll stop recruiting you then, and tell the paper that we've stopped.  But I'll see you on campus next year!".

I agree that 5 months without some sort of leak will never happen.  If he puts his signature on paper, it leaks.  If its a verbal directly to Buzz, does he take his word?  Confusing to say the least.  But, he probably saw Oregon as too far away and rural, Texas is loaded and just got a commitment from Tristan Thompson, the number 1 forward and player in 2010, so that leaves Michigan State who also is loaded.  We'll see.
