Are steals a totally separate category from turnovers or are steals included in the TO total?

wadesworld

If Providence steals the ball from Marquette, that is a turnover against Marquette and a steal for Providence.

Pomeroy keeps track of both steal and non-steal turnover rates. Our steal turnover rate is 10.3% or 278th.

How does this manifest itself? From the possession data, MU is 14th worst in allowing shots per trip down the floor and 225th on points given up after getting the ball stolen. All this despite being the 2nd best defensive team at the rim in the country.

MU lost the PC game in the 1st half last night were points off turnovers were 0-9 PC. Like many BE games, MU's pattern has been to open the game sloppy on offense, dig a hole, and then fouling in the 2nd trying to pressure their way back or to extend the game at the end. All giving opponents extra and easier chances on each trip despite our strong half court defense.
