'Excellent' doesn't mean what it used to. I suppose it makes sense since everyone gets a ribbon these days. In my day this would be a very good interview.

Sometimes yes, but he responds like that to perfectly legitimate questions he wishes to avoid.  It's really just him being the narcissist jag that he is rather than him making some broader point on the competency of the reporter.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.
