I think he would be, and the Utah press is suggesting the same.

He'd be an interesting get, and no coach is going to pass up a very capable 7 footer just because they don't necessarily "need" him.  We've been concerned about rebounding without the Hausers - his rebound numbers were really good last year, especially in conference play.  Doesn't score a ton, but that might be exactly what we need -  a shot blocker who can rebound.  You can have some interesting combination/sub scenarios between Jayce, Theo, Ed, and Bailey.

I have been one who has said that the roster, as currently constituted, would not be at all conducive to Morrow playing anything but 5. But you add a player like Jayce and that definitely opens up the possibility of using him at 4 against certain teams.

Not our area of greatest need, but I'd take him.

Jayce Johnson would be nice.  Excellent rebounder,  good shot blocker, and can score a bit.

Might even be able to play Morrow some at  PF.  Wojo would need to adjust the offense for that lineup,  but I would still expect to play mostly 4 out.

Hoiberg trying to cut out the middleman:

https://www.sltrib.com/sports/utah-utes/2019/04/23/utes-sign-prep-basketball/

From that article:

He believed he deserved a bigger role in Utah's offense, sources have said, although the analytics say he didn't make effective use of his post-up opportunities. Johnson's 40-percent free-throw shooting limited his scoring average.

Hmm.

Will he be another who complains that Markus doesn't give him the ball enough? And when he does get the ball, why wouldn't opponents just clobber him and send him to the line?

Just things to consider.

Not to mention Eke if he works his way into the rotation.

For sure - and I hope he's physically able to play.  From the recent videos the team has posted, it sure looks like he's working out full-steam with the rest of the team.  And he could learn a lot from a guy like Jayce Johnson - neither is a bruiser, but both are long as hell.

If Symir does indeed reclassify and redshirt, I'd love to see next year's practices.

The Hippie Satan of Hyperbole

A thought is that Symir might not be able to reclassify to 2019 but perhaps be able to join the team mid-season and redshirt.

What happens in the event of a tie?

Either they both have to leave or only the two of them can stay on Scoop.....not sure which is a more appropriate "punishment"

The Joey/Football model, interesting hadn't thought of that.

There are four names in blue on the other side of the board as well.  Anyone able to make those out? Guessing they're just 2020 recruits, but could be 2019 guys they're looking at.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Someone is floating that theory on Dodds board.

That could make sense, given Symir will be playing summer ball.  He might need the extra semester to graduate.

Symir would get a headstart on learning the system.  Wouldn't make sense to burn a year of eligibility for roughly 20 games since he'd already be behind on practice.

I wonder of Joey's experience might give guys hesitation about the idea of enrolling mid-season and using it as a redshirt year. It turns out the Joey has lost a year of eligibility (for now, at least, but that could change the NCAA rules in his favor in year 5) because he chose to transfer (not an uncommon turn of events).

From some of the close-up shots, it looks like that bottom row may have been a long list of names, with a few after Jayce Johnson having been erased (you can see some of the straight line above the "blank" spots has been erased).  So perhaps it is a list of grad transfer (or traditional transfer) targets, with those committing elsewhere literally getting taken off the board?

Don't know about the dark blue one, but I got this one at the spirit shop in January.

Does it say ring out vertically on the back?

Nope, the back is blank on the gold one.
