In before the lock.....

lock?  ok, i'll bring er back around-jae will figure it out-the media can make or break you.  i wonder if the nba includes a few pointers on the do's and don'ts with the media along with the-don't take 3 girls you just met back to your room for a "nightcap" class unless you want all your chit taken and/or you want to up your monthly child support tab orientation

When in doubt, go with the old standby - blame the media.

In this case, the medium involved was one of Jae's own choosing - Twitter - and the words were his own.

Damn media!

Brad Stevens backed him up big time.  Stevens is a class act in my book.  He did it in a way that respects both the fans and Jae.

Seems like the Bucks should franchise out the "bandwagon cam"!  Jae could sponsor it!

i wasn't blaming anything-sensitive much?  all i said was that...well i think you can read what i said.  tell me where i'm wrong.  the snow out there got ya a little testy, 'ey?   by the way, he used both.  yes i know he brought it on himself

Also keep in mind, Blackhawk games weren't on TV until Bill Wertz died. This reason alone is why they were voted  worst sports franchise in all the major sports leagues.  I, along with many people, hopped on board once the games were on TV.

And I too would love to see Jae on the Bulls.

You said the media can make or break you. "The media" - at least what most people refer to when they say it the way you did - had nothing to do with Jae's situation.

If you meant "social media," well yeah.

And I guess I am a little overly sensitive on this subject. The media deserve blame fairly often, so I don't like seeing 'em blamed when they play little to no role.

jay said what he said, put it on SOCIAL media.  thus, a story has been created.  now, the OTHER media comes in to ask him about it.  if jae doesn't handle this properly, it could well blow up into something bigger than the statement itself really needs to be.  if jae just downplays it, laughs it off, it probably goes away.  if he continues to push it and get down on the fans, etc, the media will run with it.

now, here is where the media can make or break you-i mean no personal disrespect here 82, but let's be honest.  the media people are, well, people too.  now let's take jae completely out of this part.  actually, this could become a very interesting topic in and of itself.   many times, if there is a history involved with a certain person/athlete-let's say he/she has snubbed the print media in the past, a negative or perceived negative article has been written in the past and the athlete is pissed(marshawn) political persuasions, hell, maybe the athlete threw a drink at the reporter in a bar...whatever.  skip forward and a completely different issue comes up-he/she tweets FREE CHICOS or something for example.  can the media put aside it's biases or personal issues and write honestly about the story?   i know, ya'll take the "oath" and all, but seriously?  there are ways, and there are other ways....power of the pen, ey ey eyn'a?

once again, i am NOT blaming anyone-jae is responsible for himself.  i just hope he doesn't sleep with a reporters daughter or throw a drink in his face and then tweet out something weird.

rocketman:

The "media" does not have nearly the influence it once did on sports. Teams now ARE the media; they release most news on their Web sites or on their leagues' sites. Athletes ARE the media - as perfectly demonstrated in Jae's case.

Once upon a time, a jock who pissed off a notable writer could have been sabotaged by the writer. Now, most fans will say, "Eff that writer. I love (insert jock's name)." I'm not saying writers can't be biased against jocks who do them wrong; I'm saying it doesn't matter.

The media is mostly reactionary - now more than ever. Johnny Manzel ... did the media curtail his career or did he curtail it himself? Did the media end Tebow's NFL career or did the fact that he was one of the worst passers EVER end it?

There is no "oath" taken by anybody in the media. And the power of the pen is mostly a myth now, at least in sports.

The best newspapers still have a major role in society by rooting out corruption and hypocrisy in the rich and powerful. Unfortunately, some in that industry have their own failings. Still, it will be a sad, sorry state of affairs if the biggest players - Times, Post, WSJ, etc - go belly-up.

As for Jae vs. Wall ... Wall is lucky it wasn't a real fight. Jae woulda folded, spindled and mutilated that skinny little guard!

Mr. Sand-Knit

I think what we are seeing is businesses n individuals taken control of their own destiny.  In the past they were victims or benefitted by how the media chose them.  We all know that objectivity have left reporting and instead of getting hit with an opinion piece sold as objective reporting why not fight back n take control of ones own situation.
Media has overstepped for far too long and gotten far to power hungry and arrogant.  One only need to look to Washington now to see its hypocrisy.  None greater than the outrage they felt when Trump wasnt unequivical on accepting election results and how the media has acted since "they" lost and what has transpired since.  Mainstream media is imploding on its self and has lost every shred of professionalism n decency.  Do what i say not as i do

You are correct on one level.  Members of the media are arrogant.  Especially sports media types.  The thing is though that that more Stephen A. Smiths that are screaming out there, the less people pay attention.

As predicted, this "controversy" went away quickly because it never was that big of a deal.

And by the way, there hasn't been a "mainstream media" now for at least a decade.  Stop parroting talking points.
