Providence is a conference opponent.   Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Louisville are rivals.

How long can you go without playing a team before they are no longer a rival?

Historically ND is the most important rivalry.  Only one coach gets beer poured on his head.  They need to play us to claim "best Catholic basketball U" but they won't for some silly reasons.  Administrations need to bring it back.  Plus it strengthens the non-conference schedule and will fill both arenas.

I am the voice of reason.  Anyone who thinks that ND is a rival in 2017 is crazy.  That rivalry is dead.  So is Louisville.  I'll give you Wisconsin for the BMI challenged subset of our fan base.  Give me Providence.

ND is still a rival because we haven't played in a few years and I still want to throw stuff at the TV when I watch them play.

This seems like a multiple choice question from the LSAT... no right answer and four bad answers, one of which might be slightly less bad than the other three.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I find it interesting that last year ND found room to play Villanova, but not MU.
Syracuse still plays Connecticut, Georgetown and St. Jowns out of league.
I don't think MU really cares about rivalries.

This is a good off-season poll topic. Credit where credit is due. But for now and for always, unnatural carnal knowledge the Badgers first and foremost and then all over again.

Well I believe you at least have to play bi yearly to truly be a rival.so let's throw out all the good teams. Syracuse nd Pitt Louisville (Damn those years were fun)

DePaul was. They haven't been good in years. Losing to them isn't infuriating it's more of a '' wow we are bad'' moment. So they gone.

Georgetown: was hoping they would be the big rival coming into the new conference. Thinking Georgetown and marquette would run the conference. Oops.

Butler: my other top pick for rival coming into the conference. The year before they knocked us out in the maui semis by a nut halfcourter. Vander returned the favor in the tournament on our way to an elite 8. Proximity was close. Then they lost Stevens. Hasn't really felt like big games since that year.

Wisconsin is our defacto rival but really we need a bigger conference rival who won't whine about them not caring since football is on anytime they get hammered.

That leaves us with two teams who actually have the ability to be a strong team year in and year out.

Xavier and Nova. These should be our rivals.

Might have been marquettes timidness to schedule a decent ooc in the past 3 years. Let's see what they bring to the table over the next two.

I think that rivalries need be close enough so students can get to the games and there are enough alumni to have an impact at the road games.  When Syracuse plays St. Johns at MSG the orange and red are everywhere.

Just for the record, in the 60',  after the football season and before ND went coed, the ND students would converge on our campus looking for "dates".  Did that make them rivals?

Clearly because they are afraid. Cowering, sniveling, hiding in mommy's basement afraid. Marquette has been trying to get that game done and ND keeps ducking us.

Cowards may not have a choice but to play us next year.

Last, I heard it's not Marquette that's not interested -- it's Mike Brey.

That info is a few years old, but our AD used to work for ND.  Whatever the reason is, it's not lack of access.
Have some patience, FFS.

Providence mentioned but Notre Dame not? Someone's only been watching Marquette about 5 minutes...
Since no dick dumped us and we do not play anymore, they are not a rival. Now areal good poll would be who is more hated, UW or No Dick. It would be close but I am betting that No Dicks bs arrogance would pull it out.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind.
