Is that seriously what UW fans are saying? They couldn't possibly be fouling in the NC because they never got called for fouls previously? Pathetic if true, wow.

Yes. Yes they are.  To wit, my cousin's Facebook post:

Quote
Just heard Bo and he was right - from 2 fouls in first half to 13 in second half. Makes me really believe that refs felt that Coach K needed to win.
Also, look at the last 2 games and most commentators will say the officials were awful. NCAA needs to fix that. Maybe use NBA refs for Final 4? But the ones they had were miserable for all teams

And to top it off, my cousin didn't even go to UW. He's a Tommie.  And he has never lived in Wisconsin.
Have some patience, FFS.

Why on earth would the NCAA need Duke to win?  If anything, it is a much better story if Wisconsin wins.

They lost the same way they lost in December.  They were dominated in the back court.  Gasser and Koenig are a good backcourt, but they are nowhere near as good as what Duke puts on the floor.

Yea, ive seen multiple posts/tweets/comments about how they averaged 12.4 fouls a game during the year and had 13 in the second half so its some sort of witchcraft.  Tossing out their foul count during the tournament and how it was far closer to the Duke game than the season has no effect.

Also, for fun on that note, Diamond is largely getting blamed for the Twitter shenanigans and how having a handle like All Eyes on Me shows that he deserves it and maybe Bo actually backed off...

Think I've seen someone else mention this somewhere on Scoop before.  Wisconsin had 18 fouls against UNC and 21 fouls against Arizona.  Where was all the rage then?  Those are way over their averages.

If you go with that theory, it also means that the refs were laying off of them in the first half.

Apparently those people aren't aware of the concept of regression to the mean.

Fouls, conspiracies, collusion... come on. We are all missing the bigger and more important point.  Wisconsin lost and that will never change.  Let's all continue to celebrate.

Right.

And the total foul count was 15-13. UW had 2 more fouls call on them than Duke.

I love how we're led to believe that one out of bounds play when Wisconsin was already trailing by 5 was somehow more of a turning point than the Allen/Jones led run that led to the 14-point swing that gave Duke that lead in the first place.

So I called up myself that lives in the parallel dimension where the replay monitor did show the OOB play and rightfully awarded the ball to Wisconsin.  Apparently, Duke stole the ball on the in-bounds play, went down and shot a 3 any way.  Amazingly, the remainder of the game played out almost exactly the same save for about a 2 second differential.

We were... well, technically, I was... so amazed by this stunning coincidence that we called up our other self who lives in the dimension where Bo Ryan got a sex change before the season started.  I won't go into details, but that game had much more hilarious consequences towards the end.   Duke won that game too.

In fact, out of an infinite number of dimensions, the only dimension we could find where UW actually won is where the Germans actually won the war in Europe, strangely enough, because when the UW team that won the championship in 1941 showed up at the White House later that year (December 6th, to be exact) for their audience with the president, Roosevelt started laughing so hard at these guys that he fell out of his wheelchair, hit his head, and sustained a concussion so bad that two days later, he declared war on Hawaii.  He became known as Dumb Ass Frank, roughly translated from the Germglish phrase, "Dümen Assen Frankieschpleitz," and went down as the worst president in US history, not so much due to the fact that he never regained his marbles so much as the fact that he was the last president in US history.

Incidentally, UW's 2015 championship marked their 75th consecutive national title.  Can anyone guess why?

The play that changed the course of the game was the Hayes missed gimmie that he should have flushed but instead put it off the glass too hard.

If he makes that basket there it's probably too big of a hurdle for Duke to get over the top.

While I think the late calls went Duke's way, if Wisconsin shoots the ball at a reasonable rate they win this game going away.  I thought Bo never adjusted when Duke went smaller.  IMO he should have facilitated the offense through Kaminsky at the high post with Hayes down low.  Never capitalized on the huge mismatches Kaminsky and Hayes had all night long.

All it would have taken was Dekker not to airball 2 threes. If he hits at anything like the clip he had all year, let alone during the tourney, it was Madison's game to lose.

Or you could look at that as a regression to the mean as well.  He was roughly a 30% shooter from 3 in the regular season...yet was 80% from 3 vs Zona and UK.  He was 4-13 from 3 vs Oregon and UNC.  Even going 0-6 against Duke, he was 7-15 in the last 3 games, way above his average from deep.

Next season, when we lose a game the refs "stole" from us, let's remember how whiny and petty and dopey Bo sounds.

I get what you're saying, but I think it's reasonable to have a different set of expectations for what a coach says on national television and what a bunch of message board dopes say online.
I would hope, though, that if Wojo were to behave as Bo has, we would be critical of him as well.

If we're going fans to fans, I don't think it's possible for us to get that bad.  They've already gone down all avenues when they insult intelligence, family, toss in a little racism, and throw a few total lies and hope they stick.

I went thru the 2nd half tonight again to slow mo the WI fouls...until about the 15 min mark they still only had a total of 4 fouls(all legit and hard)- pretty amazing.  Allen really changed the dimension of that game at that point; fought for an out of bounds ball(legit foul on WI), followed by two drives to the hoop and both should have been called. 3 fouls right there. Kaminsky had a mugging which was borderline flagrant, and WI had 2 fouls when they had to foul in the last minute. 10 total fouls right there.

There was a drive by Duke to the hoop where Duke got a fortunate block call(though WI wasn't really set) and drew an offensive foul right after that was borderline- good acting.

I thought the refs did a pretty decent job in this game in keeping the flow of it....certainly did not seem to favor one team. Finally, Kaminsky clearly walked on Okafor's 4th foul...he took 3 steps.

Bo was getting crushed on the sports radio driving home today.  Really thought after a few days and in a place like L.A. it would be dead, but they were just hammering him as classless, whiner, etc.  I wish I could have recorded it.  I'm guessing it is on a PodCast which I will share.

Getting slammed in SF too. Love it. No one is talking about the game, just Bo's tantrum afterwards.
