Calling Provel a Wisconsin creation is tantamount to inventing something in Illinois (like Chicago-style "pizza"), hiring a guy from Italy to bake it, and calling it authentic Italian cuisine.

Provel was a concoction developed in St. Louis... it just happened to be contract manufactured in Wisconsin.  Nobody calls Coors a Wisconsin creation just because they brew it in Milwaukee.

That's not entirely accurate. It was a collaboration. A St. Louis grocer told a Wisconsin dairy manufacturer what they were looking for in terms of texture and taste, and the Wisconsin dairy manufactor developed it to match what they were looking for. The recipe was developed in Wisconsin.

The recipe for Coors was not developed in Milwaukee.

Can we agree that absent the request of the grocer in St. Louis, the dairy in Wisconsin would not have come up with Provel on its own?


Although as luck would have it, both of my tangents within this thread have now converged... the recipe - if not the inspiration - for Coors was likely developed in, of all places, Naperville.  So there you have it... Coors is apparently the beer for people who won't venture outside their suburb because there might be trouble-making juveniles there... or maybe it's because those juveniles smell like Provel.

San Fran's Patxi's is known for their Chicago style deep dish (or whatever you want to call it)!

Sadly, SF and much of the west coast can't claim any style of pizza.
If you want to credit them with ANYTHING, you may have to go flatbread with non-traditional toppings...think salads on breads, seafoods on bread, etc. Think: ENTREE on pizza.

The joke is that no one from the twin cities shops at MOA.  They have a reputation for violent crime on weekends and evenings. 

Since light rail was extended to the mall, tons of juveniles take the train to hang out at the mall.  MOA has introduced some tough trespassing rules for juveniles, but it has not stemmed all of the issues out there.  They literally have a brigade of mall cops as a result of the issues associated with light rail.

Red's Savoy Pizza.  Go to the original on E. 7th in St Paul.  Try the sauerkraut and sausage pizza.  Seriously, and surprisingly good.
