DePaul hasn't played a game yet but Creighton wants to allow fans.   Utter stupidity.

It's not like fans will be courtside to effect DePaul. You can space out 10% in a 19k building.

I'm actually surprised that most schools are not allowing 10 to 20 percent of fans.  Very socially distanced, masks, no eating/drinking per above. No yelling.  No fun allowed.

The irony is that the top donors would probably be the one's who get tickets. And these also tend to be the older more vulnerable people.  And if there were some how a covid outbreak due to attending games, colleges would be killing off their biggest financial supporters....

So, maybe it isn't such a great idea  :)

Now, allowing a few "special" big time donors, I would say is a no brainer.  The top 1% should be rewarded with the option to attend.

If you can't get teams cleared to play, how can you make the argument for fans?   It isn't about DePaul, per se.   How many games have been cancelled involving UConn or Butler or Xavier?

No, you have been lied to about florida's rate of infection.

I believe we've all been lied to about everybody's rate of infection.

So, in that sense, I agree with you.

I could be wrong but I think Xavier has been allowing fans all year. I think they are only allowing 300-500 fans, though.

ZiggysFryBoy

They should just play games at Costco or Home Depot, aina?

If accurate, that would be proving my point, as they are now coming off a shut down.

Looks like they had 300 vs. Oklahoma.

I don't think fans should be allowed at games yet, but I also doubt that the presence of fans and the Xavier team shutdown are related.

If a city/state ordinance allows for limited spectators, why wouldn't they be allowed to have fans?  Just because certain locations prevent it doesn't mean that the entire league (or other programs) should be penalized for it.  Other conferences are allowing for limited fans as well.  Seems like an overreach to argue for the Big East to mandate all teams not allowing fans.

It's 2020, we have a lot bigger problems than if some school has a slight home court advantage because of 2000 fans.

That said, my life has pretty much gone back to normal with exception of: indoor dining / hanging out in bars / multi-household indoor gatherings.  As I said above, I've sat through 50+ games since June indoors.  If I can watch hoops in the Pleasant Prairie Rec Plex (pretty good grades) or COVID Center Court (terrible place), I know I can be safe in the FF.  Mask up!

No, you have been lied to about Florida's rate of infection.

I do not doubt that there have been miscalculations and liberties taken with defining and not defining a Covid-19 death in Florida and elsewhere. People have different perspectives and, at some point, judgments have to be made. But to assume that the government of the State of Florida is systematically and openly lying to the citizenry for nearly a year is as absurd as suggesting the Democratic Party orchestrated a secret multi-state vote fraud conspiracy aimed at ensuring the defeat of the Republican candidate for President.

Neither happened.

I would repeat my point from earlier. It's up to each of us, no matter where we are, to take reasonable, effective precautions to protect ourselves and our fellow persons from Covid-19. If you don't like the thought of being in a basketball arena, don't go. But it's up to an individual Big East school to ensure that if they admit fans, that they're taking precautions. It's the honorable thing to do and it prevents them from being sued later on.
