Here's where we stand after the Lou loss to WVU...

If you want the 9th and DePaul like myself, root for Notre Dame.  Only 2 scenarios can give us the 9 now, and both involve ND beating Uconn and Pitt over Nova.

16 scenarios remain altogether...
9th seed  - 2 scenarios (MU, ND, and Pitt all win)
10th seed - 6 scenarios
11th seed - 8 scenarios

If we win...
9th seed  - 2 scenarios (ND and Pitt both win)
10th seed - 4 scenarios
11th seed - 2 scenarios (Uconn and Nova both win)

If we lose today...
10th seed - 2 scenarios (ND and Pitt both win)
11th seed - 6 scenarios

99% this is correct... the tiebreakers are cut and dry now that WVU is out of the equation in the 6th.

who is it lookin like will be 7 and 8? Winner of Gtown/Cincy get 7 and loser get 8?

Yes, for the two scenarios we get the 9th, the winner of Cincy/Gtown gets the 7th and the loser gets the 8th.  If Uconn wins, it changes things.

PGsHeroes32

Well then lets go ND and cincy.

Id love a wrightless Gtown in the round 2 after DePaul. Pitt would be difficult after that though.

ND wins over Uconn!

Cincy up 20 with 2 1/2 to go.
Mich beating MSU by 6 with less than 3 to play

All good ... if only Louisville didn't choke!!

So far thus is going perfectly for Marquette. WVU's win keeps us from the bye that we didn't need, ND and Cincy took care of business. Is it correct that now if Pitt wins and we win we will get the 9-seed? If so, I'd be ready to play Lou Reed's Perfect Day.

... and if I have it correct, we play Gtown in the second round that just lost by 24.  They are not nearly the same team without Wright.

Yes, if MU and Pitt wins, the 9 lines up as good as we could hope in this league...

rd 1 vs depaul
rd 2 vs gtown
quarters vs pitt
semis vs st johns/seton hall/rutgers

Btw, Vern Lundquist just erroneously said Nova has a shot at a Bye with a win.  Guessing they had that stat for prior the start of the day's games... the way the day has ran out, the best Nova can do is 9th since they lost Georgetown during the season.

I feel like this is not a perfect scenario.  Hopefully we win tonight and get DePaul on Tuesday, however even if this happens we have nothing to gain and everything to lose gainst DePaul.  Our big game is going to be on Wednesday, no matter who we play, since it will be against an NCAA calibur oppooent.  So with that in mind I would of much rather had the bye and the extra day to rest.

Assuming we win tonight ...

Yes, losing to DePaul is a disaster but winning has an upside, 20 wins.  We get that magic number to further solidify our tourney resume.

NickelDimer

It's almost certain Pitt will take care of businees, but I'm not nearly as confident that MU beats SH tonight.

I feel like that small detail is getting lost in these scenarios.

Agreed. DePaul is also getting absolutly obliterated right now as well. We pouned them once before as well. Even though Wednesday would be no shoe in. I think Gtown without Wright is hands down the best possible 2nd round match up we could have asked for out of the possible WVU, Uconn, Cincy and Nova.

If 20 wins is so important why didn't we just schedule 3 mores games in December against Florida Gulf Coast, Northwestern State and Trenton Community College?  That would put us at 22 wins.  I'll take quality over quantity any day.

And after watching DePaul this afternoon I'm not sure they could beat any of those three teams I just mentioned.

I would love another shot at Cincy.  MU looked so terrible and lifeless in that game - I have a hard time believing we repeat that performance.

We are limited to the number of games we can play in a year.  Are you saying we should have ditched Vandy, Duke and Gonzaga for three more teams with RPIs north of 300?

Remember...in the last two years they have 2 conference wins....Providence and Marquette.

Beating them does nothing for us...no upside.  It's almost like if MU loses tonight we would have to win two BET games because DePaul is so God awful it does nothing for the resume at all.  If anything, it hurts our RPI because of the SOS drain.

I do not want to play DePaul. A win against them is meaningless and any team that loses to them in the first round deserves to be left out of the NCAA.

That's what your argument was saying, how important 20 wins is, how it is a magic number.  Based on the logic of your 20 win comment from earlier we should be scratching Duke, Vandy, Wisc and playing those crappy teams.

I'm a fan of playing a tough schedule every November and December.  I'd rather go 9-4 against good teams than 13-0 against the likes of Northwestern State and Trenton Community College.

My comment, similar to that of Chico's, is that DePaul sucks and even if we get to "20" it doesn't matter because of how terrible DePaul is.
