Marquette earns 43rd Postseason berth (9th All-Time)

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (muwarrior92)

This afternoon, the Marquette men's basketball team earned it's 27th NCAA tournament bid overall and sixth straight.  The 27 bids places MU at 17th on the all-time list of NCAA bids.  The NCAA bid also serves at Marquette's 43rd overall Post Season bid (NIT and NCAA) in their history, good for 9th best in college basketball Division I history.

MU received the 6th seed and will play the number 11th seeded Washington Huskies in San Jose, CA.  This is the 3rd time in the last 6 years that Marquette has been sent to California to play in the first round.

Marquette is 16-10 all time in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The time of the game will be announced likely tomorrow morning.

I like this draw...I think we can do some damage....UW had to play a full slate to just get in...I am not sure about New Mexico I will take this draw any day

Didn't we make the NIT when Novak was a junior and Diener was a senior and hurt?  Making this the 5th straight?

Ken Pomeroy will enjoy this matchup, he has MU and Washington as the 28th and 29th top teams in the country according to his formula.

It was my mistake.  It's 5 straight, corrected now.  And yes, it's 28 total bids, also corrected.  MU got a bye in round 1 in 1979 and that's where it was thrown off.

Actually, technically this is our 29th bid, but of course we didn't accept it in 1970 and played in the NIT instead.
