With my least favorite coach coming into the BC tonight I was thinking about where Buzz ranks in terms of coaches in the BE? I right now have him 6th best in the conference with him and JT 3 being very close.

Boeheim
Calhoun
Pitino
Wright
Huggins
BUZZ
JT 3

Those are my top 6 coaches in the league. I know that Buzz is just in his second year but I think he is showing he can coach with most of the big boys.

HoopsMalone

Probably about right.  I would not trade Huggins for Buzz, but Huggins is more proven.

My Cuse friends are VERY nervous that their Associate Head Coach, Mike Hopkins (the guy that was picked to take over after Boeheim) might not wait around another 5-7 years. I guess he is No. 1 on the list for the Seton Hall job and the St. Johns job (if they both open up this offseason). He is said to really want the Michigan job if that opens up as well. This guy has brought in essentially all of their top recruits over the last few years so it will be interesting to see A) what happens to Cuse (though I am sure they will be just fine) B) what would happen to either BE team if he became the coach.

I thought Syracuse had no top recruits. :)

oh boy, this thread definitely has the makings of a great one...

I cant wait to hear about chicos 5 yr rule, or ners boastful praise

I cant wait til the tan one gets thrown in

I'll offer an opinion:

1- Its difficult to even rank the established coaches in this league, let alone the "new guy" who seems to be overachieving

2- Jamie Dixon is DEFINITELY in the top 5- you prob just forgot him

3- Its difficult to even rank them this season, but Ill make an attempt at my top 5: Boeheim, Dixon, Buzz, Wright, Huggins

4- If you asked a casual observer (non BE or MU fan but fairly active college bball follower), there would likely be 6 if not 7 guys picked ahead of Buzz- Boeheim, Calhoun, Pitino, Wright, Dixon, Huggins, Thompson

You need an emiritus list. Sweet Louie C, JT II, and the Tanned One

I4 isn't worthy to be a bathroom attendant for JT II, lou c, or any of the other great old BE coaches.

Did Louie C ever deck out as Karate Kid and ride a four wheeler onto the court? If the answer is no then you have your answer.

I'd be nervous to an extent if I'm a CUSE fan once Boeheim leaves...just because a program has a legendary coach, there is ZERO guarantee the results continue on to infinity.  See MU after Al McGuire, Indiana after Bobby Knight, UCLA after Wooden.  Particularily if CUSE loses its big time recruiter to another school - to me it would be easier to recruit kids to New York City or even Seton Hall, than upstate New York (once the legend Boheim is gone.)

UK after Rupp, UNC after the Dean, UC after Huggy, DePaul after Ray, LIU after the Bee, Wagner after The Deane

Well, from what I have heard from my friends, the associate head coach was a player under Boeheim. And if he were to leave, he would leave for head coaching experience, which may be better than sitting behind Boeheim for another however many years. But they all expect him to come back once JB retires.

I am sorry for the omission I did forget Dixon which moves Buzz down the list. I think it is hard to do, but when looking at this year I would like to say that Buzz has impressed me with his coaching, which I thought would be a weakness of his after last year. I am not sure he is far behind Huggs but he has been coaching far less time than Huggs

TheBudaPest

Buzz is too new. He needs to age, like wine, cheese, or a phenomenal turd

+1 - Funny stuff.  As much of a Buzz fan as I am, I'd rank him after Boeheim, Calhoun, Pitino, Dixon, Huggins, Jay Wright (in that order from best to worst)..and then Buzz.  As big of fan as I am, I cannot realistically bump him ahead of any of the above guys until he puts in 4-5 years minimum..as these guys above all have some serious chops/credentials/etc.  That said, I think Buzz has done the BEST job with his team this year out of any coach in the Big East...but he's not yet the BEST coach..if that makes any kind of sense.

I was in San Francisco for the weekend and the table next to us last night was a bunch of Hoosier fans there on business so the conversation soon turns to TC.  These guys were going on and on about how great TC is, I told them he is a fake and in 2 years they will run him out of town.  I was very proud of my wife who is a very casual fan get in their grill and tells them leaving for a different job is ok but not the way it was done.  She also added Buzz is more genuine, a better coach and a better dresser.  One guy told me how he had run into TC and he set a tour of Assembly Hall for him, told him TC is great at PR but not so much recruiting bigs or X and O's
