Does anyone know if he did the rankings at the beginning of the season?  I have to think that the Big East had one of the smallest land areas of any conference.

DePaul, St. John's, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Providence and Xavier are extremely small (DePaul seems non-existent).  Marquette, Villanova and Butler are all small.  Even Creighton -- which is by far the largest, isn't very big.

Yes, though he started it on busting brackets and they pulled the series (see here).  He's been updating on reddit since - here's the first post with stats.  And here's his reddit posting history.

Marquette still leading by a pretty wide margin.  Unfortunately....

1) Beating St. John's won't gain any ground
2) Losing to St. John's will lose everything!

We need to invade Princeton.
Fort Ticonderoga is critical to our defenses and must be retaken at all costs.

I love this map regardless of the lack of actual value in basketball terms. I will let the creator use their own rules however they see fit and just want to see the end result. Lots of people in New York City to be conquered if only Seton Hall hadn't beaten us to them!

Root for Xavier when they host Seton Hall on Wednesday. If they win, they'll bring all that territory with them to the FF on Sunday.

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

If I understand this right, a team can only steal land from a team that they play.  So now that it's conference season, the Big East will just pass around the territory currently owned by Marquette, Providence, and Seton Hall.

But St John's plays Duke!  If the Johnnies beat Duke and steal their land, then all of that Duke land comes to the Big East.

Then guess who plays St John's next?  That's right, Marquette.  We could be looking at a HUGE land gain on February 5 if St John's helps us out earlier that week.

(That's my birthday too!  What a birthday present it would be)

So at the end of the year there should only be four schools on there right?

Ultimately, only one. Each team should bring any territory they have to the conference tournament where each champ would end up taking all the territory. Then each champ would bring that to the NCAA tournament.

There could be exceptions if a team wasn't invited to the conference tournament with territory (Ivy League or a postseason ban) but ultimately one team should control the entire map.

I think last year he reset it for the NCAA tournament.

I can't tell you all how great it feels to wake up in the morning in a land controlled by Marquette.

Duke's loss to Syracuse deprived the Big East (and, Marquette by extension) an opportunity for a nice land grab.  The only chance the Big East has to add to its land is when SJU plays Duke on 2/2.  It was setting up perfectly for the conference because SJU lost all of its land to Villanova, so they would have nothing to lose in the game against Duke and could only gain.  But Duke lost everything. If Duke beats Virginia, they'll have some land, but not nearly as much as they would have had.  So, best case scenario at this point for Big East is that Duke beats UVA and gets their land, then loses it to SJU.

Thanks to their upset of St. John's last night, our game against Providence on Saturday will be to consolidate all of the land that is held within the Big East.

At present, Marquette's kingdom already includes more people (60 million) in more counties (464) than any other team.  And we're third in land with 411,000 square miles (behind Kentucky who owns most of Alaska and San Diego State who just won a huge chunk in Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas).  With a win on Saturday, Marquette could add another 7 million people in 86 counties and 48,000 square miles.
