Apologies for getting back on the original topic, but I've actually heard the Crean rumors from multiple "sources" (I use that term loosely) that I know who've worked either with the basketball program or in the athletic office during Crean's tenure. He didn't necessarily want to leave MU but when a program like Indiana offers you the top spot, it's incredibly hard to say no. I don't fault him one iota for taking the IU job. I also absolutely believe that in hindsight, he wishes he had stayed at MU...and not just because he's currently out of coaching!

Bad_Reporter

No harm, no foul gents.

Just wanted to share what this AD said.

Goose

Crean left because he wanted to leave. In addition, he was getting heat from Strong for lack of success the last couple of seasons. He sent feelers out to schools the year before leaving. He might have remorse now, but he wanted to get out of here at the time of his departure.

Nah...was personally at a few donor functions where people were pissed about his actions actively trying to leave....illinois being the worst.

You are correct on his active efforts to leave. He took some heat after Stanford loss and began actively looking to leave. He took some heat and tried to cut his losses.

If I had a nickle for every time someone got their Chicos accusation wrong, I could buy many, many Arby's Beef and Cheddars.

Who starts a diet the Tuesday before Thanksgiving?

Have some patience, FFS.

Thanks for the info, pilot!

I do find it interesting that a Big 10/12/whatever AD would have that much close, personal contact with MU's last 3 bball coaches. Though, I suppose he would have some insight on Crean being at IU after.

Original post doesn't indicate any close, personal contact between the AD and Buzz, just that the AD had an opinion regarding the Buzz/MU lack of fit.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Yet there's only one person to blame for it, in all reality.

I'm a long time poster/reader. My email was compromised so I couldn't get my temporary password so I had to make a new account.  No im not chicos, cheesy, etc.

I wanted to share a story from today. I was flying a big 10 athletic director today.  I went to meet him in the fbo and he struck up a conversation with me.  I told him I went to MU and then he decided to talk my ear off.

I was at that game. What a brutal loss. The Lopez shot with the ball circling the rim seemed like an eternity.

Unfortunately for Crean, Dick Strong was at that game as well. Loss did not sit well with him.
