The Profit & The Soup Market
« on: September 08, 2016, 09:17:37 AM »
So Marcus brings the TV show to Milwaukee (it takes a mere 90 seconds for a Marquette shout out, by the way) and visits the Soup Market -- aired on CNBC this past Tuesday.  I have not been to one of these restaurants, but it from the looks of it, I probably won't have an opportunity much longer.

I vaguely recall there being a thread where we may have discussed Soup Market at one point, but I'm not finding anything... has anyone else frequented Soup Market, and what were the opinions on it (prior to the episode airing)?  From the episode, it sounded like it was quite popular, but I don't know anyone that's been to one.

EDIT: Second MU mention about 8.5 minutes in, and it's a decent one-liner: "I'm a Marquette grad... I know how to get to Bayview."

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

They are very popular, there are two near where I work (Milwaukee Public Market and Bayview on KK). I didn't see the episode, but if they are struggling economically it's not because of the traffic but because of their inefficiencies.

There is a lot of soup variety, and it's usually good

Probably not a good strategy for the owner to ignore basically everything Marcus Lemonis suggested....

Have some patience, FFS.

Two questions.

1. Who is Marcus?

2. What is Aleppo?

I guess I have had soup in the Milwaukee Public Market, but never knew it was called "The Soup Market."

I recall it being good, I guess? It didn't make that big of an impression on me, obviously.

Well played.

I'm guessing that ended his hope of getting an invite to the debates....

I wasn't meaning it to get political.

I just got beaten on Scoop doe the "What polls?" meme.

So I wanted to get the 1st mention on this one. That's what happens when I have too much time on my hands (as Tommy Shaw would say).

I go to the Soup Market downtown in the Milwaukee Center often during the winter.  Their soups, stews and chilis are all really good, but pretty expensive.  Like six bucks for a bowl of soup with a hunk of bread.  But in foul weather it's nice to have in the building where I work.  And they've got about 7-8 different soups available each day, and the full ingredients of each one is posted on the menu.  Every one I've had is good.

Here's today's menu:

Funny... IIRC the episode made it appear that the owner was rather opposed to disclosing ingredients or nutritional information.

I get the distinct impression that the owner is merely the UFO-boy's dad with a chef's hat, i.e. a short-sighted attention whore wrapped in layers of lies.

Nothin' soft about the Pulled Pork BBQ Chili with Baked Beans.
