Nope but I'm sure you being the most logical person in the world would love to tell me.  Btws I'd look up belief bias.

Come on, at least give it a try.....

The South Side of Chicago has had a rash of kids killed by stray bullets and simply being too close to gang activity.  Murders may have went up in the UK, but I doubt that is a problem.  Nobody accidentally being killed by a stray knife in a drive by knifing.

Suicide is another one.  I love the argument that guns cause suicides.  Uhm, no they don't.  Having had to experience this with someone in my family, they want to kill themselves they find all kinds of creative ways to do it.

Poor, poor, Chico. YOU had to deal with a suicide committed by "someone in your family" (a distant cousin, maybe?). So you're an expert and you've decided the availability of a gun at the wrong moment isn't a factor.

Well, I'll see your anecdote and raise you one. My older brother (by 13 months), not just "someone in my family" committed suicide 11 years ago last July. I won't get into particulars, but the act was event driven, spur of the moment. And a gun was available. Would you be kind enough to write my brother's widow, children and grandchildren to explain your theory that the gun at just the right moment only spared them a "more creative" dead husband/father/grandfather? On second thought, maybe just go frack yourself instead.

Correct.  This is why when guns were banned in the UK, the murder rate went UP.  People find another way to do what they are going to do.  Suicide is another one.  I love the argument that guns cause suicides.  Uhm, no they don't. This is why this thread belongs where it was....in the political section, but ghosts in the machine.  I'm guessing a screenwriter from So. Cal...the rain makes people do silly things out here.

I had a b-i-l that jumped off the Hoan bridge, do we

A. Ban bridges?

B. put nets up all along bridges?

You miss the point.  Sure, some people are killed by collateral damage of bullets, etc.  THe more important point is that guns were taken away and the argument was it would lower the murder rates.  In fact, murder rates went up.  Why?  Because criminals will still find a way, that's what they do.

An update on this sad story.  The father has survived and due in court.  Because he killed multiple people, he is up for the death penalty (see, if you only kill one person out here, well that's ok....3 squares and a cot), but because it was more than one then you can be up for the death penalty.  Of course that means out here he will get to ride that out for 35 years with appeals.....three young children, stabbed to death in the back of their car.

Imagine, if he had done it with a gun, the outrage and the screams to ban guns.  But, he did it with a knife...so...uhm.....

Galway Eagle

so is this chicos new thing to post all the stabbing deaths? Whatever keeps him occupied

I think we need one more board to go with Hangin' at the Al, The Superbar, Trading Post, Prediction Board and Politics.

We can call it Chicos' Carving Station, and he can post a link to every story involving murders perpetrated by knife.

This will give him the proper outlet to "prove" unequivocally that knives are far more dangerous than guns (which, remember, he "doesn't like").

What's the line from The Untouchables, ".........bringing a knife to a gun fight!"

If only Sean Connery knew.......

Actually:

"They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That's* the *Chicago* way! And that's how you get Capone. Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I'm offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?"
Have some patience, FFS.

Buried on Page 4 of today's Charlotte Observer:

Two people were killed and a third was seriously injured when gunfire erupted after a domestic dispute Saturday night in northwest Charlotte.

Officers ... found a woman and a man dead of gunshot wounds and a second man with a potentially life-threatening bullet wound.

The man who survived has not been identified. ... He and the woman were formerly involved in a relationship.

The killings would be the sixth and seventh domestic-violence-related homicides in 2015, about double last year's total.

I'd call this story "sad," but Chicos only gives permission to use that word in describing knife murders.

Guns and domestic arguments are often a lethal combination, but obviously not nearly as lethal as ball-peen hammers and domestic arguments. And certainly not as lethal as knives!

Oh, and as I said, it was a small story buried inside the paper, but I'm sure the evil, left-wing media was still displaying its anti-gun crusade. I'm just surprised the shooter could even get a gun after Obama took 'em all away!

I didn't say you wouldn't call it a sad story. So you lied again.

One thing I will say is that you sure as hell wouldn't post that sad story on Scoop. And I don't blame you. I mean, when would you find the time when it's your sworn duty to post every knife incident?
