Went to the DePaul game today and driving home in Chicago I listened to Oliver Purnell in his post game interview on 670 Score.

He was very clear.  DePaul lost the game because of a series of bad calls.  He blamed the refs.

I cannot fathom how he thought that.  And I was stunned he was so blatant in blame shifting to the refs.

I thought the game was called fairly.  Questionable calls?  Sure every game has them but I did not see the reffing favoring one team over the the other.

Did anyone else her him?

I thought they were very bad on the block/charge fouls, but were consistently awful with them the entire game.  Not only that, but I think we were on the losing end of the block/charge calls the majority of the game.

As far as bad officiating, Temple/Memphis.  Clear foul on a 3 point attempt with about 12 sec left in OT.  Temple should have been shooting 3 FTs with a chance to tie.

How about Beheim's reaction to a charging call at the end of Duke game!  Identical situation under Syracuse basket was called the other way earlier.

Honestly, I agree with Purnell. There were a lot of ghost fouls and I think the favored us.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

It was both ways.  There were a couple situations where there was not even contact but because a guy's hand was up and the ref had bad sight line he called a foul.  I sincerely hope the NBE realizes that their officiating this year is nowhere near the level of play for a top conference and does something in the offseason to improve.  These refs are horizon league quality!

I agree that there were bad calls both ways.  Earlier in the game, they favored DePaul, and towards the end, they favored Marquette.
Have some patience, FFS.

I agree, but Boeheim cannot react that way.  SU still had a chance at that point.

I watched the last few minutes of regulation last night .. there was a point around 2-3 mins left where Gardner was fouled FOUR times, put up a shot, missed, got the rebound and a phantom foul finally got the ref to blow the whistle -- much to the chagrin of the DePaul player who couldn't believe it.

Was the one with an "and 1" that gave a new meaning to the word "continuation?"

Correct, Topper. Ox was hacked across the forearms by #11 on the first shot in that sequence. Juan had TWO calls on him that were ridiculous.

To an extent I agree.  There were a lot of ghost fouls against them (and against us), but in contrast I think a lot of the ghost fouls against them were after several no calls on obvious fouls.  They often let them play on after some contact, but then after repeated hacking would finally call a foul, often on something that was barely touching the other guy.

I thought the officiating was bad, but even, if anything slightly favoring Depaul for a lot of no calls.
